Not for me. Fuck no. I gotta drive 2 1/2 hours each way and wear a fake smile for 4 1/2 hours while I'm there. Phony-baloney bullshit Holiday Celebration. The only good part is eyeballing the entire table wondering which one won't be there next year.

Yes I look forward to it, I don't have to drive as I am the host, so that helps. Only two or three times a year does my entire family get in the same room at the same time. I look forward to all those times, it probably helps that there is only nine of us in the immediate family.

Well, we celebrated Thanksgiving last month in Canada, but I missed it because I was in the US for the FreeOnes party.... I'm looking forward to next year though, my family is pretty cool. Plus, I never like to turn down a free meal! Haha.

I have family member coming over to stay at my house for the Thanksgiving period, and he's bringing his family with him. I love him and all, but I hate all the baggage he brings from past bad decisions he's made in his life I have to deal with while he's here. (First among them all the rest of the people he's bringing with him.) I grin and bear it for the sake of family harmony, and because if I said what I thought things would turn south and my relationship with him might be hurt in a way that can't be recovered from, but I will be glad when this holiday is over. About the only good thing is the gigantic feast that is being prepared and that I will get my first extended time off work in a long time.

I don't have any family or friends, so it looks like I'll be spending Thanksgiving alone. Maybe I'll order a pizza. Are pizza places open on Thanksgiving? How about a pizza shaped like a turkey???

We're keeping it simple this year, as my stepfather is in the end stage of Alzheimer's. So no family in town just yet.

That is a nothing drive. I'm driving to Macon, Ga to my Granny on my Mom's side before she checks out. Others family members are flying but I don't trust planes. It is about a 11-13 hour drive but when traveling long distances by car I usually start the drive past midnight so that you can pick up the speed with less cars on the road when you are in the country.

Leaving after midnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

Going put a real beating on the rental car also :)

I only look forward to it all this nonsense being over. I completely forgot Thanksgiving was this Thursday and was only reminded of it last night. I gotta spend this shit with my mom and uncles. Luckily I won't have to deal with anyone for Christmas so the pay off is ok.

It will be immediate family and friends at the hacienda. My sister & I will be cooking. Extended family (moochers) either do not know where I live or know better to visit. It's not the coming over for a free meal that bothers me. It's when they start grabbing for tin foil to take food home with them. At least bring a bottle of wine or dessert if you are going to attempt this.

Most Chinese places will be open because those heathen sons-of-bitches don't celebrate American holidays regular like. Or if there's a casino in the vicinity they'll be open and you can get something there.

I'm only one person for the most part. It's 1 1/2 hr drive and it gives me something to do, be with people. We all live our lives pretty separately so the drama stays between the parties and not at the gatherings... well sort of. A way to crack on each other face to face in front of others. All good fun.

We gather at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and July 4th. A dozen or so of us. My brother is like the patriarch since mom and dad have been gone for decades. I get the best of the deal. Break up the party so he and I watch football and suck beers together one on one in his awesome man cave. It's good quality time since he's the kind of guy that doesn't share feelings or looks for advice. He's got the big house with 3 kids sent to college, retired but still working to kill time till his move towards more golf courses, ya da da da da. That makes me feel special. For a guy that lives 180 degrees from him, I can still be the one to help him.

Good advice. Make a plan to get out of the fucking house. Treat yourself. I book a room for Valentine's Day and New Years Eve every year in AC well in advance. Maybe I'll have a woman at the time, maybe I won't. Either way, I've planned that day for me.

I am. I love my family and my out of town Sister and her family will be here and since we won't see them for Xmas I am looking forward to seeing her and her hubby and son (My nephew)

My family is spread out all over the country so we don't get together very often but when we do it's usually Thanksgiving and we all have a blast.

Thanks for that. I now feel much better knowing your drive is worse and my vehicle is also probably better. Happy Thanksgiving!
