America's Most Expensive Hamburgers

On May 26, millions of Americans celebrated Memorial Day with backyard barbecues. While most of our grills were filled with the usual Grade-A meat from local butchers and supermarkets, dozens of restaurants across the country served Kobe-beef burgers topped not with ketchup and mustard, but truffles and foie gras. The price tags on these wallet-busting burgers can reach $175.

According to Adam Kuban of Seriouseats.com, the appeal of the luxury hamburger is that it democratizes status symbol foods. “Most people don't get to say they've tried the best or most expensive truffles, caviar or wine,” he says. “But a $40 burger is arguably within reach of mere mortals. It's a chance to try the ‘ultimate’ example of something edible, and because it's a burger — well, who doesn't want to eat the ultimate burger?

I read that earlier. I'd never pay that amount for a hamburger. If I ever do, shoot me.

Check and check. ::cocks the gun::

Back when I was well-employed but didnt have to pay any rent, OH and the economy wasnt shite.. I *STILL* wouldnt dish out more than 8$ for a burger.

.. and hell, 8 bucks buys you fries and a drink alongside that burger at my local pub. So that's not bad.

I hear ya! There's a lot of places around here that you can get a burger, fries and a drink for 8 bucks.

Who wants a $175 burger that is gone in two bites when you can get a Double Whopper with cheese combo for around $6 ?
I guess it must be the fact that it comes with 3 fries?

That's just gluttony for the wealthy. Give me good old ground beef with some pickle and mustard.

Some people have too much money.

Instead of spending it on things like that, they can give it to me. :D

For a burger, no matter how good it may or may not taste there is no way im paying that, i'll see you at the Burger King round the corner.

I don't want to become a fattie that is why I don't eat every day at fast food, it is very rare that I go to a fast food.

some people are so stupid.

why bring down cuisine? If i was dumb enough to spend 175 bucks on food, it would be something a lot better than a goddamn hamburger. Like white rhino flank or condor omelets, or whatever the hell superfluous shit that rich people eat.

....Kobe beef should never......EVER be a hamburger dish in my opinion because it tastes so good served regularly on a plate with the appropiate side dishes in some of the finest restaurants I have been to......The Best burger I have ever come across is at Bar Americain in New York City.....Bobby Flay is the owner and for a reasonable $20.00 the burger is one of the best tasting as far as expensive cuisine is concerned......Also the same goes for the fancy pizzas that most of the West coast dared to call real pizza......

...Or you can just go to the market and buy the hamburger and buns yourself and have it taste almost as good. :1orglaugh I wouldn't even do that to eat a hamburger though.

I agree. I had a Kobe burger in New York last year and I found it a little tough, although that could be the chef not the meat. Had it a few months later as a steak and it was the best steak I've ever had.
