America's Five Most Expensive Homes

Those houses look real nice. I wish I could afford something like that.

Yeah would be great, having a pool, tennis courts, cinema rooms, beautiful gardens, I'd never leave the house. That's why I hate to go on property sites (I've had to a lot lately as we're looking to move home) as you see all these great homes us poor fuckers could never afford.

I hear ya. Whenever I look at homes for rent, I get discouraged when I see nice, expensive homes that I can't afford. Maybe one day, but until then, daydreaming works.

Who would wanna live in something(s) so big?

In my opinion, only those who are never satisfied would be interested in decadent, gaudy and opulent residences like these. I've actually had the occasion to visit many a residence similar to these in my profession. From my experience (and of course I don't want to label all of them this way) for the most part, the people who live in them are paranoid, austere, snooty, eccentric and very, very unhappy.

I would say it's like this..at a certain point for many people who have the means, a home isn't merely a place to live, a boat isn't simply a recreational vehicle and a car isn't something merely to drive. They are owned by some people as testaments to their success, life, wealth, etc.

It is not as simplistic as the notion of "keeping up with..." or racing to see who can have the biggest or best...It's not too apparent but there is a difference.

These in some cases are symbols to their own personal life or success journey not simply utilitarian needs.

I think you're right Jaggs. So sheltered. You almost have to feel sorry for these people (as they are obviously laughing at us, all the way to the bank).

I just don't think I'd even be comfortable in something so monsterous. Give me a nice cozy lakeside home (with superb fishing of course) and a bit of privacy and I'd be a happy camper.
