American Sniper

I haven't seen this film yet but have been reading some of the stories of the criticism from some in hollywood left (of course) and the backlash.

The director Michael Moore and the actor Seth Rogen took to social media to air their thoughts, although they both later backtracked. Moore appeared to slam the glorification of sniper Chris Kyle in the film, writing on Twitter: “My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren’t heroes.” Rogen compared the movie with a Nazi propaganda movie that appears at the end of Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds.”

Moore, you fucking fat piece of human excrement and waste of space, I thought that was what you do in wars, kill the enemy? A sniper is a coward because he's not fighting according the Marquess of Queensbury rules? I'm sure the Americans whose lives were saved because of him appreciate his cowardice. And there's Seth Rogan showing no ability to make a moral distinction whatsoever. Just fuckin' kill yourselves. If anything, do it to reduce your carbon footprint. Do it for mother earth.

Animus, the worst thing you can do is give these non-entities a moments thought. When I was perusing the headlines, I saw Michael Moore's name and immediately thought, "Of course." And that is all the heartrate, blood pressure and intestinal lining he's going to get from me. He's not worth getting upset at because he's dead to me. And he will remain so.

And I don't have a clear idea who Seth Rogen is, but he's probably just one more Hollywood fevered ego. Most likely the biggest danger he's ever faced was a spider in the kitchen.

Don't let the non-existent worry you. And don't think for a second that they speak for Liberals. Not even close.

But...I'm lying a little bit. Thanks to them, I'm rewatching Band of Brothers. That'll show 'em.

[...] Moore [...] , writing on Twitter: “My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. [...]”

Well, don't turn your back to the enemy then. Or was he running away...

I always admired snipers. I've read stories of snipers in WW2, laying still in the mud and cold, sometimes with tanks almost crushing them when they pass by, and just waiting there for hours so they can fire that one shot and take out an officer. Or stalling an attack and giving troops a change to save retreat because the enemy had to figure out how to take out the damn sniper that kept killing them one by one. These people have some serious skills and probably saved A LOT of lives.

Haven't seen the movie yet. I just hope Hollywood didn't fuck it up to much.

Maybe Michael Moore should make some illegal campaign contributions and get put on probation, that worked for attention whore Dinesh D'souza and kept his name in the news for a while.

Yes, because exceeding donor limits is the same as comparing an American war hero to a coward or equating his story to nazi propaganda.

I didn't compare the two, I was merely offering Moore a suggestion as to how to keep his name in the news.

And a post script to the above, you're absolutely right, one is a crime, the other the exercise of free speech. Nothing similar to the two at all.

I watched it recently. While it was gripping, it did fall a little flat with me. That baby doll they used to substitute for a real baby kind of pulled me out of my suspension of disbelief. Cooper's portrayal of someone not willing to cope with traumatic stress did strike a note, however. I spent eight years choosing to ignore the symptoms myself.

Correct, but the average person would be hard-pressed to know who Dinesh D'Souza is or what he did (or care) let alone who [nobabe]Wendy Long[/nobabe] is. As someone once said, "What difference does it make?"

If attention whoring is his aim, Michael Moore is better served disparaging a deceased American war veteran being portrayed in a box office record breaking film.

That's true, I never said I had an effective suggestion for Moore, a guy who looks like a regular on the competitive eating circuit, he certainly doesn't need my advice, but offering opinions is one of the many free services I offer.

There was a political undercurrent to the prosecution of D'Souza. I didn't have to do anything but read who some of the participants on this thread were to know that Moore would be brushed off as some hapless misguided liberal that just wanted attention as is always the case. If a conservative says anything they are Satan reincarnate. Don't look now but some of D'Souza's predictions and assertions from the film 2016 are coming to pass just as he said they would in the film. Liberals should be embarrassed at Moore, I will at least admit to wanting Ted Nugent to STFU.

That's because D'Souza is an unabashed conservative shill, never mind that he actually broke the law, it must be political because he's a far-right darling troll.

I just reread the thread. Who are you talking about?

We are. Enough of us have made that clear. We are as embarrassed by Moore as any rational Conservative is by Nugent. So much so that I really don't see why you feel the need to make this point.

Some could argue that this president has broken the law. Alan Dershowitz remember him? He's sort of liberal said that he was prosecuted selectively. I honestly like Dershowitz, make me mad as hell some times but when he is right he is very right. And one of the legal profession's most brilliant minds. It's a shame he is not on the Supreme Court.

Come on man! Every time I say liberal doesn't always mean you or xfuego.

Of course "they" could, just like "they" argued Bush broke the law, of course we're talking about the most butthurt and sorest of losers, so what does that tell you? Explain to me what selective prosecution means and how all prosecutions aren't "selective". One could argue that D'Souza was prosecuted to set an example, but that happens all the time and it's not like Obama filed the charges personally, so really, what are all these tears about?

I don't work for the solicitor's office but prosecutorial discretion should always entail examining legal precedent , case law and just basic common sense. No Obama didn't file the charges but I m sure that he could have made a "phone call" that we aren't aware of and bend an ear or two. It's not going to be too difficult to charge someone that has stepped on toes in NYC. I don't really complain about D'Souza because I question his judgement a little for finding Laura Ingraham sexually attractive.

You said "participants on this thread". I was just wondering who those participants are.

But the thing is, Moore IS "some hapless misguided liberal that just wanted attention as is always the case". That's him on the best day he'll ever have, and nothing more. I'm ever-so-slightly-ticked at Animus because all he has achieved with this thread is to pay attention to Michael Moore. So Michael Moore has succeeded. I saw the headlines well in advance of this thread. I was never going to post this thread. Because I don't want to pay attention to that bloviating pustule. But by sitting here, typing the words "bloviating pustule", I too am paying attention to Michael Moore. And I don't want to pay attention to Michael Moore. Here on a site dedicated to hot, naked women, I want to pay attention to hot, naked women. I'd even rather pay attention to my inebriated President and his Cross Fountain Pen than pay attention to Michael Moore. But no, here I am, paying attention to Michael Moore.

Happy now?
