Am I the only one who gets annoyed when people leave cabinets open?

Nah, my ex-rommate hated it too.

Just get your own place and close all your cabinets.

So what you're really saying here is that you're also a cabinet-leaver-opener?

I can respect you defending your own kind by marginalizing this.

I'm neither...I close them sometimes..at times I may leave them open. When I see one open...I may close it or I may not..depending.

Just saying...it seems more like a chick peeve from my experience....are you a woman? You didn't answer..and your answer isn't an indictment...it's just a curious question.

Depending on what? Your current mood or desire to close a cabinet? A rough calculation of risk/reward? Maybe you're using your inaction as a form of non-violent protest towards social norms? Why leave it open in the first place? How silly does that sound? "I may clost it or I may not... depending." Yeah, that'll really buck convention. You show 'em.

Ok, I think I've got it now. Either you live alone, you're just plain lazy, or both. Fair enough. Why even have cabinets, or put things in them if you're not going to close them? Why not just take the doors off of the cabinets, and turn all cabinets into shelves? Why not just dig a huge hole in your back yard and throw your trash in there instead of using a trash can while your at it? On that thought, why even turn the lights off when you leave or clean up after yourself? Call it a "chick peeve" if you like, but I've hit my head on open cabinets more than 5 times in the past months. So, if "chicks" are the only ones who are "peeved" by the possibility of having their heads split open by a lazy, irresponsible, selfish act then I guess I can't refute your claim that this is a "chick peeve."

Oh, and no. I'm not a woman.

I live happily alone certainly not lazy as that would be the last word which would apply to me but I won't go into that.

Depending? Yeah, depending. Depending on what's in the cabinet, if it's a top or bottom cabinet. If I have gotten more than one thing from it and left it open unintentionally, etc. I'm not obsessed with leaving them open nor closing them and I don't look to see if they are open or closed.

For aesthetic reasons and the way my home is designed they are 99 pct of the time closed. But that is merely for aesthetics, not because it would bother me per se if they were open.

I clean up after myself naturally but I also employ a maid part time for maintenance and deep cleaning of my home. Turning off unused lights is a matter of practicality not laziness to me. I turn off unused light pretty much naturally. I wouldn't forget to turn off an unused light no more than I would forget to tie my shoe laces.

You suggest you've nearly clangged your noggin a few times. Begs the question why didn't you close them when you happened upon the situation before it came to that? I don't suppose you just appeared magically in the place of the open cabinet and didn't have a chance to close it.

When I have had relationships in which we shared the same homes..the duty to close open cabinets was mutual and not an issue. If I happened upon one that was opened ...and thought to close it for some reason..I would..so might she. The circumstance never elevated to issue level.

I say chick peeve because chicks usually spend more time in the places where cabinets are.:2 cents:

I asked if you were a woman partly because of that and usually a man wouldn't have "plump rump" for a moniker.

Only when OTHERS leave cabinets open do I get annoyed, you see, some how I have free reign to violate the tenets of my belief system, rare huh ? ;p

So based on the cabinet's location and contents you are either more or less likely to close it after opening it? Huh?

Of course it wouldn't bother you, you live alone, as you say, so you're the one who left it open. Nobody ever readily admits that something they do of their own accord bothers them.

If you consider coming home at night with the lights all off, and running into an open cabinet as "just appearing magically in the place of the open cabinet" without having a chance to close it, then yes, that is how it happened. And I suppose next you'll call me an idiot for not having the foresight to close it beforehand. Yeah, I suppose I deserve that one.

This is exactly my point, a "mutual duty." And what do you mean you would close it if you "thought to for some reason?" The reason, is not something you have to search for. Its open. If you're not going to either immediately or in the near future use the contents of the cabinet, what sense does it make to not close the door? Do you pull your car into your garage at night and leave the driver's door open and say "Oh, well I'm more than likely going to drive my car tomorrow, so I see no realistic reason why I should close the door?"

:dunno: Uh, okay.

But I would call anyone an idiot who didn't have the foresight to turn on a light beforehand and traipsing in the dark. In that case, an open cabinet is not your only hazard.

Just not something issue worthy to me. Close the thing if you have a reason to and if it bothers you.

Just sounds more like a chick complaining about toilet seats up or down. If a man sees it down and needs to raise it..he does. If it's up and he needs it lowered...he lowers it. You don't have to be a Phi Beta Kappa to find the solution to that problem.

I'm a practical man and things like that just don't rise to issue level for me.:dunno:

For something that's not "issue worthy" you've spent a lot of time defending it. And as far as toilet seats go, there is utility in both the "up" and "down" positions, whereas once you have entered a cabinet for the item(s) you need, the utility in it being open is lost, I would think that you, being such a practical individual, would understand that concept.

Anyway, you're right and I'm wrong. You win. I know thats what you're looking for here.

I'm not defending anything..nor am I right or wrong. Just voiced my opinion.
