Alternatives to Windows Media Player & Movie Maker???

I'm officially P1553D off with Windows products.

I.E. (so I will now be using Firefox), Media Player, Movie Maker etc. they are all tosh! And don't get me started on VISTA...:mad:

  • I use Media Player to view all my clips and vids, but sometimes the codec issue gets me so angry I could spit!
  • I use Movie Maker to put my free clips together to form one "movie", but .avi files always get screwed up. The picture gets squashed to the top half of the screen only :(

A friend of mine mentioned in passing that he knew of an alternative to Windows Media Player and referred to it as "VLC". I never got anything more than that out of him, so I was wondering if any of you guys out there can offer advice?

I'm looking for cheap or free to download programs that are as good if not better than Windows Media Player and/or Windows Movie Maker. Include links to sites where these can be downloaded.

This is all in the spirit of porn enjoyment and life enhancing experiences, so start your post with a joke and I'll rep ya - here's mine;

A bride on her wedding night says to her husband 'I must confess darling, I was a hooker!'.

He says 'That's all right, dear. Your past is your past, but I must admit that I find it quite erotic. Tell me about it'.

She replies 'Well, my name was Nigel, and I played for Wigan !'.

VLC works for me too.

I agree with the others, VLC is very good. It uses its own filters apparently. I had some old (5+ year old) MPEGs that would not play properly with Windows Media Player 9 or above. I couldn't find any codecs that helped me either. I even tried MPEG editors as well. As a last guess, I tried VLC since it doesn't rely on codecs and the videos worked! While I still use WMP for some things, VLC is now a permanent part of my arsenal.

What in the hell is "TOSH"...??? :confused:

Never heard of Peter Tosh? Granted he's no Bob Marley.

Also don't know how it was he lent his name to this particular usage, but more power to him. :D
