Albert Haynesworth Compares His $100 Million Contract to Slavery

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
He'll play like an all pro again as soon as he's not getting paid like an all pro again. That's how it works. He played his ass off for a new contract and he got that shit. Now he wants to run the team and find excuses not to do whatever it is he feels like he doesn't want to. Take that money away, and his ass will play in a 46, 3-4, Tampa 2, whatever it takes to get that dough. He sucked last year, bitched all off-season, came back out of shape, and faked some bullshit injury during conditioning drills. This is just the type of person Haynesworth is. Washington failed for overpaying him in the first place.

I don't like Albert. Don't get me wrong. But he has his contract now. He's going to get paid regardless of how well he plays. That's why he holds all the cards. Don't be surprised if they trade him before the end of the season.

Was Troy Aikman a shithead douchebag for transferring from Oklahoma to UCLA because the coach that came in wouldn't be utilizing his skill sets?

It is the exact same thing with Haynesworth.
He was a blockbuster free agent brought in to be a monster 3 tech that would likely propel him into a HOF induction (sacks). Now with Shanahan, he will no longer be utilized the same. He has every right to be upset and HAS demanded a trade since the beginning even before training camp started.

No it's not. Players in college sign letters of intent to play in exchange for a scholarship to a free education.

At anytime for any reason the player may request to be released from that contract. When that happens the player has only gotten what he gave...for as long as he did what the coaches asked of him, they honored his scholarship. They paid Haynesworth (Haynes"worth"..that's funny) 20 million before he even played a down under his new contract.

I understand he may not like playing a different role but but he signed a contract to play football not a specific position or in a specific scheme.

Whether he's happy about it or not...he needs to realize that and not make a situation he doesn't like worse.

He shouldn't run around bitching because if he's worth his salt and he doesn't fit into what they're doing....they will trade him. But they're not going to trade him until they see if they can get their money's worth out of the contract he and the Redskins agreed to.

There were allot of things he could have considered when he was about to sign with them...one thing would have been stability in the organization and it's coaching staff.

No one can predict the future but sometimes the writing is on the wall. There are always options...some are good, some not so good.

If he felt this strongly about it...he could have signed with another team or sat out the season unsigned until he knew the direction of his team.

No shit its not the "same thing" it is however, the same principle for the player leaving.

It isn't like Haynesworth didn't have a choice. He was the most sought after DT this decade. He couldve gone anywhere else, but chose Washington because of the scheme. Washington pursued him for his skill sets in that scheme. The regime completely changed. He asked to be traded from the get go (many players leave college/pro when new staffs come aboard). Washington misrepresented their position ('no we're not changing defenses', 'we'll have packages just for AH', blah blah).

Washington mishandled this thing.
Haynesworth has a legitimate beef.
No one is winning here, and they shouldve got something out of him via a trade in April, rather than bitching about shit on principle (and attempting to assemble the all-pro team of 2005).

If you have pass rusher Lawrence Taylor at LB, and you now want him to be an exclusive 'run stopper', he certainly is within his right to want to go somewhere else.

Ha... he can't get paralyzed if he doesn't play...
It's a great example of the whining that's still encouraged about how dastardly every white person is because of the history of this country...
How are you supposed to counter comparing your employment... your being expected to follow your employer or boss' rules to slavery?
People need to remember what slavery really is... mostly women in modern times, but people ARE still enslaved in places of the world today... comparing your job playing a game to slavery highlights your lack of intellect and wisdom.
& yes, I'm white, & I'm tired of the whining about slavery...
I'd point out slaves came from one tribe of black skinned people conquering another tribe of black skinned people and profitting by their sale... NO ONE INVOLVED WITH SLAVERY AT THAT TIME WAS INNOCENT.
BUT, none of us alive today were involved in the slave trade.
& lots of white Americans' ancestors had no involvement in slave trade... many of us have ancestors who faced their own trials getting here... famine, starvation, persecution... Many had to work at 'slave wages' when they got here, making less money then they needed to survive, & so falling farther into DEBT to others... & hundreds of thousands of American ancestors fought & died to end slavery.

So stop trying to score points using the memory of slavery. Do your job, & complain about real issues, or better yet, don't complain, live by example & fix your problems yourself.

Sheesh

Goddamn colored folks and their whole "being equal" bullshit

Thanks for illuminating where the Haynesworth angst is REALLY coming from (fear of a black planet). Haynesworth is relating a workers rights against the bourgeois but because he's black and getting paid, you're upset (yet the white collar exceptionalism of CEOs is perfectly fine)

Personally, I think the guy is a fucking scumbag who should be thankful he's still in the league after taking a guys helmet off and stomping his noggin twice. He also left a guy paralyzed after smashing his Ferrari into the guy's car at 100 mph.

All that aside, he should just play play under the terms of the contract he signed. Not being happy about change and being concerned at how he's being used is understandable. Whining about it and claiming you're not for sale is another.

His contract doesn't say he (Haynesworth the man) is beholden to the Redskins...it says Haynesworth the player is.

Beyond expecting him to be conscientious about his actions and the possible impact on their investment, the Redskins don't tell Haynesworth how and what to do off the field.

Shut up and play...if you don't work out in the system. It will work out as they will try and get their money's worth in another way by trading you.

Exhibit A in making a mountain out of a mole hill: Albert Haynesworth.

What an idiot.

The man is dumbfuck, not lets move on to other things like TITS!

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
He's paid to play the game the way that the coaches have decided to. That's what athletes do...they are not the ones who devise systems, etc. Yeah, he would have better individual stats in 4-3 defense, but if he's drawing a double team, he's doing his job. Regardless of what the salary, he is paid to do that job the way that his bosses have decided it should be done. As a player, he should realize that the system may well change from year to year, that happens a lot in the NFL. That is not comparable to changing the terms of the contract...he gets paid to do his job, not to complain about it and miss trainings.

If I don't like the way the office does something, and skip half a year's worth of meetings and trainings as a statement, the statement that I get back will be "get a new job". But, with the system as it is, if the Redskins release him, they will have paid $100 million for nothing from him. Their hope is that he will see the effect that his whining has on his teammates, and toe the line. Not likely to happen, but that's all they can hope for.

Very well said. :hatsoff:

He signed a contract to play football. If he doesn't like what he's being asked to do, he can quit and go find a real job.

A fat piece of shit being paid millions and millions of dollars to PLAY a GAME should never be allowed to use or refer to himself as a friggin' slave. Unbelievable stupidity.
