Twice, that I know of, I've had telephone conversations with a computer.
I thought I was talking to a live person, but after a few sentences, I realized it was a computer with voice recognition software processing what I was saying and responding almost instantly with prerecorded responses.
There are different levels of sophistication, most are just basic slow programs, and can be easily identified as an automated system.
