dude scurto had a career year at 37 he got the big contract because that's what the Giants do. and he didn't join the giants until late July before than 2nd base was a revolving door
No you're mixing him up with Chris Carpenter, the pitcher. Matt Carpenter was a terrific lefthanded bat and a platoon player against righthanded pitching last season. Great question otherwise. I just don't think he is ready (and may never be) to make the transition to become a second baseman and certainly doesn't have the skills to be a SS. He's much more suited for corner OF or 1B at this point. I would sure love to get his bat in the lineup as an everyday player but so far there isn't an open position for him. Things will only get more crowded when Taveras makes it into the lineup, possibly even this season. Next year, Kolten Wong is on track to take over at 2B. With Furcal out, we just don't have a solid option at SS and Descalso should start the year at 2B.
Dickey's a knuckleballer; we had him and he couldn't pitch for shit in the HHH Dome, and I've never thought of knuckleballers as dome guys.Jays land Dickey. Looks like they're going all in this year.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Wong in STL this year, maybe around the all star break or so especially if Descalso struggles. I do think Matt Carpenter can play there but not everyday, they moved Shumaker to 2b a few years from the outfield and he just had no range, Matt Carpenter is an infielder so he should be better than what Schumaker was when he was in STL but still I agree Descalso should start. As for SS we have Ronny Cedeno and I think he can fill the gap for a while if Furcal isnt ready to go but he is not someone I want starting all season. The Cards are loaded in the minors so I wouldn't be shocked to see them try to work a deal for a SS if Furcal is out for an extended period of time.

Okay, i got my Carpenter's mixed up and i thank you for the info. Allen Craig is the 1b but he needs to stay healthy. On the depth chart it looks like Wigginton is the back-up for Craig and M.Carpenter for Freese ? Wigginton might be good insurance but Carpenter would be better at the plate no ?
I can't wait until Wong is ready. By all accounts, he should be terrific when he comes up so I hope your prediction comes to fruition. Carpenter may have "infield" listed as one of the positions he can play but 2B sure isn't at the top of the list for him. He's a first baseman first and foremost and subbed for Craig and/or Berkman at the position last year quite often if you recall. I fear that he won't be able to transition to second baseman and my big worry at SS is that Furcal may be out most of the year (he's extremely injury-prone as I'm sure you are aware). I hope you are right about Cedeno if Kozma can't measure up but I fear not. Like I said, Taveras better be all that sooner than later cuz we're gonna need his bat with the weak middle infielders we have. I am excited about the pitching talent we have and Rosenthal, Kelly and Miller should all be ready to make major contributions. I love baseball and I love the Cardinals!
Well Furcal has been announced as needing Tommy John, so now its time to worry. Cards have to go out and get a SS that can produce, we have the depth in the minors even though I hate using it. Seems like we will have to use that depth to trade for a SS now. Tulowitzki would be nice but hell they would want Miller, Rosenthal, and Kelly for him and no way that will happen. Maybe someone becomes available before the season starts, I hope at least!
well guys maybe you talk to the A's about Jed Lowrie. they wouldn't want your best minor leaguers in return
yeah Rockies hitters always prove to be not so good elsewhere
Interesting article about Wrigley Field.
