2007 MLB Thread

As much as I love baseball, I will be glad when the Series is over and I don't have to be exposed to those Dane Cook promos for "There's only one OCTOBER!"

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
Baseball has been my #1 love ever since I was a little kid, so I hate to say this, but...

I'm beginning to think that baseball is somehow, soooomehow fixed to a certain extent. You can't honestly tell me that the fucking Red Sox can pull 3 straight wins out of their ass against Cleveland and THEN sweep the Rockies without a little bit of help. Yes, the Red Sox are good, but they're not that good. There were some seriously questionable calls during this years playoffs.

Joel Skinner...why in the HELL would you hold Kenny Lofton on third base when it was obvious to any retard that he could've easily scored and tied the game? Money? How much? The strike zones were complete crap as well. The Red Sox were getting some pretty favorable calls going their way during the entire playoffs.

I'm just glad it's over.

people have always said this about almost every sport and now that these thoughts have been proven to have some validity, you can't help but believe that corruption maybe present.

Who knows what it could be

Red Sox! 2007 World Series Champions!!!

It was pretty wack. Notice how they didn't show one celebrity at the game tonight (last night)? Or was it just me? Usually there's dozens of A-list celebs at the World Series, but maybe I was flipin around too much...:dunno:

For those of you who think baseball is an honorable game, don't get me started on the Giambi's and Bond's of the league. The entire history of this game has been tarnished, and it's been public knowledge for years now. IMO, probably most of the league is doping.

I still like MLB playoffs though! :)

excuse me. that's pathetic. you're right but that's what i'm talking about.
Players Doping
Umpires betting and being biased
Front Office fixing shit.

All of that is possible and only somebody naiive would ignore it. Similar to the nba. I've been had a difficult time watching alot of it and now it's twice as hard for me to care about it

While I concur with those who are down on the game due to the whole steroid mess, I don't see why this series outcome is so surprising. I mean, the Sox staged an even bigger comeback to win the 2004 alcs, then swept the Cardinals in the series. Plus, take away the Rockies one miracle run and they were simply a .500 team :dunno:

Let me start off by saying I thought I wasn't going to come back to this god foresaken place but I wanted atleast one return engagement. It appears as though I was right when I picked Boston back when spring training was set to begin. I think it was February 20th on the first page of this thread. That really doesn't matter though. I was right just the same. Yankee and Indian apologists on here didn't want to hear it when I repeatedly said Boston was the best team in baseball. How's it feel knowing you were wrong? The Red Sox held on to win their division (like I said they would) and the great fearsome Yankees couldn't handle the Indians who were later just a speed bump for Boston. There's no collusion involved or fixing behind the scenes. It's just the best team in baseball going out and proving it against whoever stepped to the plate. The Rockies were never going to beat Boston. In fact you could have thrown any one of the NL teams out there on the field...Mets,Phillies,Cubs,Diamondbacks and the result would have been the same. Down 3-1 to Cleveland? You should know better. Play 2 rookies at the top of the order? We know how that went. Subtract arguably the best 1st basemen in the AL? That's ok. The outfield in Colorado is bigger? Oh no! How will Boston handle it? Make Ortiz play first? No problem. Put Lester on the hill for game 4? No issue there. In closing I would like to say to all Yankee and Indian apologists that every one of you loser fags (especially iamtemporary) can suck it and suck it deep because the Boston Red Sox are 2007 World Champions. :thefinger

Umm...aren't you a fan of Boston. A lot of people pick the team they are a fan of to go all the way. I'm sure there were some St. Louis fans that did it last year. It wasn’t like you had any clairvoyant ability or knew they would win the World Series through analysis. If I was a Boston fan I would, in fact, be a little worried now. The Red Sox are starting to transform into the new Yankees, the ones before they started operating in a stupid fashion, you know, the ones the people Boston used to hate more than anything.

Then again to put it into perspective here's the payroll of Boston and the teams they played.

Boston - $143,526,214
Cleveland - $61,673,267
Colorado - $54,424,000

So Boston's payroll was ONLY 27 million above both teams COMBINED and that doesn't even count the 50 million they paid just to be able to talk to Matsuzaka. I guess in a truly fair world Cleveland and Colorado should have started the game out with a 3 or 4 run handicap in the beginning.

eh let him talk. That whole 80+ year thing is over and its obvious some fans dont know how to handle success as they were so used to losing. Here's a hint act like you've been there before which should be easy since you have. No long wait to use as an excuse anymore.

Congrats to the Red Sox for winning. I was pulling for the Rockies (I tend to pull for the underdog as long as there is no team I care about left). I think both teams are going to be very good for a long while.

Boston should be fine provided they remember what got them to the dance: great pitching. The Yankees forgot that some time ago and the results show it.

These playoffs did suck, however. Not a single good series in them. Yes, thats including Boston/Cleveland. The baseball playoffs are becoming a big bore to me in general. Oh well, I guess we can hope for one good series next year. I think asking for a good Series will be asking too much at this point.

And dont get me started on A-Rod right now...

Word is they're going to go after A-Rod now. They ARE starting to look a lot like the Yankees. I think MLB needs a salary cap. :)

The games were loooooong, weren't they? Christ they were long. I'm not too happy - and never have been - about the first series being best of 5. I mean, play 160 some games and then the first series is best of 5? Stupid, IMO. I've heard people argue that's why the season is so long, so it's only fair that the first series is only 5, but I don't agree.

They're turning Japanese, the Cubs are turning Japanese, I really think so.

I need to get me a Fukudome jersey.

Ok, now sign some fucking pitching!

You heard it here first folks...ChefChiTown is making the first official "Fuck-you-do-me" joke in regards to Fukudome's name. Anyone else who uses this joke is a COPY CAT!!!

And yeah, we need some pitching. I mean, I like the Cubs pitching, but we need something more than what we have.

This is good because if there is one thing we know it's that the Cubs do a fantastic job of developing and maintaining top pitchers. ;)

Payroll is an incredibly stupid debate. If the teams used their draft-picks intelligently and didn't make stupid signings they would have a better chance of winning. Payroll has nothing to do with anything, and you should know this. Our best pitcher in the post-season was Josh Beckett, go ahead and see how much of the payroll he takes up.

We need to get this guy a dice-k type nickname STAT. I've heard a few thrown around already, but how about Kung Fuku !?!
