$150 million for Obama Inauguration

quote from the article:
"That is probably not the way the country is going to be looking at it," said committee spokeswoman Linda Douglass. "It is not a celebration of an election. It is a celebration of our common values."

Douglass said the campaign sought to keep costs down by having the same decorations at each of the 10 balls, eliminating floral arrangements and negotiating prices on food.

"Those at the Obama administration are trying to be reflective of the climate," McDermott's spokesman, Mike DeCeasar, said Saturday.

What a load of bullshit. There wasn't this level of hype for Carter, Reagan, Bush1, Clinton, or Bush2. It's because he's black (not black enough, according to Sharpton). The election was about emotion and race, not about competency or qualifications. Pure and simple.

Its funny nobody complained when Bush got re-elected (or stole the election in Ohio) and we were in the height of the Iraq War and he through a huge inauguration party which no one watched. Granted this is a lot bigger. Most of the money coming from donations. It is well deserved. This country deserves a celebration for what it has accomplish. The replacement of the worst regime in U.S. history with hope and progress. God Bless America. The best is in front of us.

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
Excessive.

What will the inauguration be like?

Will Obama ride in on a golden chariot with white stallions pulling it?

Gladiator fights with fireworks to end the ceremonies.

Basically a Roman-esque tribute. :yinyang:

A federal judge should just go over to the White House and quietly swear him in on the first day. That's it. Too much money wasted. They could be doing something productive.

Yeah, I wish somebody would run for president with this philosophy for running his government and his campaign. Of course that could never happen.

Actually you are wrong, there were a LOT of publications and news articles that lambasted George Bush for spending 40 million on his reelection inauguration celebrations, Including MANY articles and "pundits" claiming that so many other things should have been done with the money.

Now it is perfectly fine because it is the anointed one!

I call :bs::bs:

He campaigned on "Hope and Change" and yet he is preparing to blow money like a drunken sailor.

Sooner or later COMMON SENSE and REASON has to be reintroduced to this country. I just really hope this country still exists by then.

Good post. So Bush spent $40 million on his inauguration. I think that number is insane and unnecessary.

For this "historic" event, Obama needs to spend nearly 4 times that on his inauguration.

...........so much for "responsible" spending!

The election was about emotion and race, not about competency or qualifications. Pure and simple.
Hmm. I think one of the candidates graduated from Harvard Law and taught at Univ of Chicago and the other candidate married a rich beer heiress. I think America decided intellectual prowess mattered this time. There are too many disasters that need "smart" solutions, basically.

I think everyone is looking at this the wrong way. This inauguration is meant to show the world that we still matter, basically.

We are replacing a president who was so incompetent that someone actually threw his shoes at him....

Maybe we need to spend more...let the world know we have a badass in the White House....

I'm deeply offended that part of the money I work so damn fucking hard for to earn is going to be spent on this bullshit.

Maybe we need to spend more...let the world know we have a badass in the White House....

UUMMM Economics 101. If you want to be successful, you DON'T spend money you DON'T have. That isn't being a "badass" that is being irresponsible.

Why is it OK for Obama to spend the money he wants to spend the way he wants to, and a crime or evil for Bush to do it?

Hypocrisy and double standards abound.

This is a ridiculous amount of money this guy has already stated he wants to spend. I am NOT talking inauguration either.

This is totally above and beyond that stupidity.

The "Economic plan" Obama has been working on was revealed last week.

The result? FIRE UP the Presses, we need more cash!!!

The spending he is talking about is absolutely unfathomable! The country doesn't have that kind of money to throw around that way.

As I said before, COMMON SENSE and and intelligence has to reappear in this country before it is completely gone.

I happen to agree with you on both counts!

I didn't vote for Mr. John McCain but say he just married rich is reason is complete strawman of him. He was a war hero before and serve in airforce. After that he was a Representative of the U.S.A congress and then he was a Senator for over 20 years. (Although anything accomplished????)

Saying he is rich woman's husband is like saying Mr. Barack Obama is a community organizer who got where he is thanks to "affirmative action".

How about we the show world through action and policy and not through a worship service for Mr. President.

I don't want a "badass" in the Whitehouse. I don't want Mr. Cool U.S.A.

Haha, not quite. So you are saying we need to show the world that we still matter by spending irresponsibly ($140 million)?

Isn't most of the economic turmoil around the world today due to irresponsible spending by American companies, banks, and investors??

We would be doing the world a much better service by trying to be responsible as opposed to showing off.

McCain had a positive record of accomplishment and inner strength.
Obama has an accomplished political and leglislative record of absolutely nothing.
Are people enamored with the image or illusion of greatness,or just swelled with wishful thinking?

John Kerry was the same way. His first wife didn't want a political life. Their marriage ended and Kerry moved on to a richer second wife. The only difference, of course, is that McCain actually cheated on his first wife.

I do wish McCain had beaten Dubya back in 2000. There is no way a John McCain president in 2000 would've gone to war in Iraq after 9/11. I thought the McCain of 2000 was "the real McCain"...the McCain of 2008, with the phoniness and the "admiration" for Sarah Palin...good grief. Talk about hypocrisy!

***Whoops**Twat Detective I meant to reply to your quote not make my reply your quote! Whoops...um..well, I guess this will look kind of weird but oh well...

So this doesn't apply to Bush and the warmongering, the deficit-spending and tax cuts for the wealtyh? What are we supposed to do, as a country and government, just sit back, do nothing, put our collective heads in the sand and just "hope" for better days? Bush/Cheney screwed our country for the next 15 years immediate if we do nothing. If we "spend money" TODAY to get the economy started again TOMORROW, we can cut spending in the near FUTURE. One way to jumpstart our economy is to stop fighting meaningless, useless wars and to stop trying the "spread freedom and democracy" from the barrels of our guns. If we stopped warmongering and cut the defense dept budget by 30%...shifted that money over to put even more lightening in the economy...maybe this depression will be over sooner rather than later.

My final point is CLEARLY the majority of the nation feels like I do--we are celebrating the election of A REAL PRESIDENT..2Million PEOPLE are coming to this party!..someone who has the capability and charisma to make the U.S. relevant again and not the laughingstock of the world...which is what Dubya made us into..
