15 Safest and 15 Most Dangerous States (2010)

In quite a few cases that's correct. What you just posted conveniently avoids the fact that with influx of X people crime rate also went up. That's not a coincidence.

I don't know what it is... and apparently, neither do you. You just seem to have set beliefs that you're trying to back up with anecdotals and supposed correlations. I mean, you've already said that your father grew up in an area with a "non-existent crime rate" (your own words). Well, I already know that's not true - but it does sound nice. Like those stories that people tell about "the good ol' days". Either the sun was alway shining or they had to walk ten miles to school, in the snow (in the summer time)... and it was uphill BOTH WAYS. Whatever... The only place where there is, or was, a nonexistent crime rate is the Land of Make Believe. Sure, in the Land of Make Believe, there is no crime. And I'm getting off my Gulfstream V, getting in my XJ220 and I'm on my way back to my penthouse condo in Monaco, to be greeted by Ivanka Trump at the door... in nothing but her black lace bra & panties, asking me how my day was and if I want a sandwich. Ah yes, the Land of Make Believe is a great place :)... but it ain't any more real than made up crime stats from years gone by. ;)

What you're suggesting could be true... but you just don't know (or don't want to know). And if you don't need facts, figures or (actual) data to give you (valid) answers or conclusions, then as I said, good luck with that. I certainly wouldn't waste time trying to show you how to do this the right way. Afterall, a man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still. :hatsoff:

Kinda like driving 33 in a 30. Yeah, of course there is crime, but as far as the crime that is unnacceptable - the really atrocious: murder, rape, armed robbery - for the most part, yes, it really is non-existent. If you go just to the north there literally is zero homicides and rapes. Once in a great great while, but really, no, there isn't a crime rate. I don't live in a dream world, just reality, bud. ;)

I'm game. Post the data and we'll see just how real your reality is. I kinda need to see the data since your reality seems to be having quite a time explaining my state being more diverse, yet ranked higher than your state. Hmm, damn statistics. Always gettin' in the way of a good
opinion. :D

Gotta go now. Ivanka has my sammich ready.

Maybe we need a more micro-macro analysis then? Because I submited my theory - that the only significant crime is in the most diverse area - and you submitted yours - that you live in a broader, more diverse area. FWIW, I don't know what state you're in,so your state could have millions less, also playing a factor in analysis.

Actually my state (VA) has a 50% greater population than Minnesota.

Bloodshot Scott:

If you go just to the north there literally is zero homicides and rapes.

Really?

International Falls, MN is in the northern part of the state, yes? Tiny little place, with not even 6,000 residents. No homocides. But there have been 46 (reported) rapes there since 2001.

International Falls's property crime levels tend to be about the same as Minnesota's average level. The same data shows violent crime levels in International Falls tend to be about the same as Minnesota's average level.

http://www.idcide.com/citydata/mn/international-falls.htm

No offense to you, Scott. And I'm not slagging on your state - I'm sure it's a nice place to live. Heck, Mary Tyler Moore even used it as the backdrop for her show way back in the day (and we all loved "Mary Richards"). But "theories" based on anecdotals, wishes or some conclusion that a person WANTS to be true, just don't mean anything to me. Reliable data means something to me. So when a person tells me that "in the north there literally is zero homicides and rapes" and I can disprove that in about 30 seconds (looking at just one little town)... we're back to Ivanka Trump making that sammich for me in her bra & panties. ;)

My advice: avoid anecdotals and use data. That tends to get you closer to the truth... whether it's what you want to hear or not.

So you're going to pick and choose what suits your claims? I'm sure I could pick some shithole in VA and find disproportianate statistics as well. And plus, there is a native community up there that by all accounts is out of control, so what you posted deserves more scrutiny that that. It doesn't prove (or disprove) anything. I have family southeast of there and the area is about the same, and there are absolutely no rapes or homicides (there was a homicide there recently, but I think it was the only one that has ever occured there). By contrast the Native community if Cass Lake is a nightmare - homicide, rape, crime in general. That's also in northern MN, so yeah, your point is irrelevant.

Dude, I don't know jack about Minnesota. You (now) naming these various little backwater places doesn't mean anything to me, because I don't know (or really care) where they are, or anything about them. I'm not going to waste my time sifting through every podunk town in your state to cherry pick. What do I care? But you should have known what the FACTS were before you claimed that there was no violent crime in that part of your state. You said northern Minnesota, so I went to Google and picked the first city I came to that was in northern Minnesota, and looked up the crime stats. Damn, I must be good. Apparently I picked the ONLY place in northern Minnesota that had any violent crime. :1orglaugh So if I wanted to waste some more of my time, I'm sure that I wouldn't find any other towns or cities in northern Minnesota that had any violent crime, now would I? Have you checked, or are you going to tell me another story about Bob the Barber assuring you that's it's A-OK in every other place... except the one I picked at random???

I don't have a theory (in this thread) on what drives crime - never said that I did. You're the Idea Guy here. All I've tried to do (rather unsuccessfully) is to point out that your argument/theory/whatever you want to call it, was based on nothing more than speculation, make believe and anecdotals.

Look, bottomline, a person shouldn't claim that violent crime is nonexistent in a certain part of his state, if he has to then go back and make excuses for why there actually is violent crime there... once actual data shows that there is. ;)

And you can pick any city or town in Virgina that you want to. What do I care? That won't change the fact that my state falls into a category that you claimed should make it an unsafe place to live, yet it ranks higher than your so called "homogeneous state". :hatsoff:

It doesn't come down to anecdotals, only reality. Your state is shit compared to mine, "bottomline." It's garbage. I've heard of VA and it's a shithole, totally, completely. If you're going to do research, do a more thorough job, don't just pick and choose what suits your claims.

:wtf: And so ends the baseless argument, from the kid who (apparently) doesn't know what an "anecdotal" is: "I've heard of..."

This has been uh, interesting, to say the least. But I have a feeling that your next post is going to begin with "nanner, nanner, boo, boo!" and might involve :crying:... so I'm out. :wave2:

The midwest is also the place that has the most cities that get over 100 murders a year, and home to the two murder caps(Chicago for raw murders and East St.louis for murder rate)

I was thinking five state area (ND, SD, MN, WI, IA). I don't know if Illinois is technically part of the midwest or not. I suppose it is.

Yeah, I don't know what an anecdotal is.

Truth be told that post doesn't make any sense, but I was pretty lit up last night. I did a pint and a twelver (basically 20 drinks). Anecdotal evidence and statistics is what I was trying to say.
