I've done that already. I once composed a piece for 4 voices in the style of Arvo Pärt based on A Elbereth Gilthoniel! That came out really cool. I've also written 16th century counterpoints in Elvish, plus other random bits and pieces.
I haven't either, but I had to read lots of passages from it for college work. Actually, I've been meaning to compose a Mass at one point or another. It's not that I care for the religious aspect, but a Mass is a real challenge for a composer.
I am more into sci-fi books after I read Blade Runner and Dr. Bloodmoney from Philip K. Dick
It's actually more informative and better-written than the Bible.
