And I have to be honest...
Root canal would have been less painful!

Can someone explain to me why this show is popular?

I don't quite get it either. I've seen a couple of episodes, and though I did find them entertaining, I don't consider them as great as many others do.

Still, I'd say above average.

LOL, I thought this was going to be another thread praising that terrible show :1orglaugh

I agree, I don't see the reason for the popularity. I found/find the show to be mediocre at best.

I am comming to the understanding that Voltaire, Mushklore and my husband are right. People are generally stupid!

I can not believe how many people told me I had to see the show. More than half my collegues discuss and go on at length about each episode....

What I'm getting at is that television generally sucks dead donkey testicles. And the reason for that is producers have to create programs that will interest the brain dead. AND THEY WANT TO REMAIN THAT WAY!

Whereas, anything that stimulates the brain's synaptic pathways is shunned.

Oh well..
Voltaire, "The masses are asses."
Mushklore, "If the individual is so smart, how did the masses become asses."

My husband, "Love doesn't make the world go around. It's the giggling idiot slapping the globe really hard that does."

I just finished season #2 and I think it was not as good as season 1.

I wouldn't rave about either season, but I think that it's solid 40 minute entertainment. (Ok 75% of the 24 episode 1st season and maybe 50% of the 2nd.)

It's nice to know that I'm braindead - it explains a lot.

I'm not trying to take a cheap shot at you or anyone else.

It's just that I work my ass off and when it comes time to un-wind, I'm treated to entertainment that is essentially mindless. If I don't want to watch shows like "Lost," I'm left with a choice of either documentaries or porn. Therefore, if I'm not horny or wanting to learn about the rituals of tribesmen in the Congo, I'm S.O.L.

More and more, I find myself reading!

To some point I agree with BNF. Enjoyed the first series, but the second wasn't quite as good.

The main reason some people like the show and others don't all comes down to the type of person you are. In Lost the stories are designed to interweave and are based on fate, destiny and the funny way peoples lives can cross at times in the past without them realising it. You have to closely follow the stories and think about them. Not everyone enjoy's this for entertainment, it's usually the people who like to test themselves to relax or a studier who will enjoy this. Also then theres the mystery side of it, where is the island, how come nothing ever seems to pass it by sea or air. Also who are the other people on the island, how did they get there and what are their plans. Like I said it's lots of thinking and not many people like that in there entertainment.

Kelly in this age of cable and sat TV we have multiple choice of shows to watch. So I'm confused as to how you can only find two other types at the same time. In the UK series2 finish a few weeks ago and while it was on you had the choice on the other four standard TV channels of...

That doesn't even bring in the extra choices with cable, sat or freeview channels.

As for series 3 I'll give that a go too.

You see I find nothing to think about in Lost. I find the plot, at best, trite and predictable. As well as the characters are 2-dimensional.

As for the rest of your post...
Have you ever heard that song that says, " 600 channels and nothing on"

I guess I am completely jaded. I honestly find that 99.5% of the programing to be crap. I flip through the channels and seldom stop for more than a couple of minutes.

news = propoganda (especially the BBC)

comedy= Heard all the jokes before. (Just watch 1 season of Friends and substitute a new title.)

drama = Court room, cop, etc, etc. Rip offs of old shows too.

Film = I think last year I wanted to see a total of 3 movies. 1)Pollux 2)Ice Age 3)hmmm make that only 2 movies.

On the other hand, my spouse just loaned me "Le sens du combat." A book of french poems and surprisingly I'm enjoying it. (Who would have considered it?)

Its not the type show that you can come in on the third season and catch up. The fact that you still find it entertaining says volumes I think.

I saw season one and was very hooked, unfortunately due to circumstances and time restraints that we all have at times, and the lack of TIVO or a player that records I haven't seen it since. I still hear rave reviews from my friends and ****** so I don't know what to say. Its just a matter of taste I suppose. Like anything in this life is. Voltaire has always been one of my faves but I don't agree with " Masses are Asses" in this case.

I guess I rate as brain-dead also, as I sit here enjoying the hell out of a "Walker Texas Ranger" episode as I type this. lol. Just for the record before I'm branded a bimbo. I read, I research and I watch The News, The Discovery Channel, Military Channel and The History Channel daily. :D

Its just all a matter of taste and opinion like everything. Like the song playing on the radio, if you don't like it simply turn it off. IMHO.

I think its because you've joined in WAY to late.

There wasn't that much hype at first, it took a while for it to get big...

And now everyone has seen series 1, 2 & a few episodes of 3, which are constantly getting better. So now everyone is MAJORLY bigging it up... Not just the first series.

So basicly, if you haven't seen the show yet, don't bother. You'll just think its overrated

I've seen a couple of episodes, and though I did find them entertaining

Would you buy a book and just read "a couple of chapters"? The show doesn't really work like that. It's not a sitcom or a soap, you have to watch it from begining to end or it won't make much sense, and you probably won't give a **** about the characters.

I'm not trying to take a cheap shot at you or anyone else.

Well it sure came off that way. There are a lot of people on the board that do like the show, and do get it, and I don't think I've seen anyone make such a generally insulting statement in a single post as the one that was made in your previous post. Maybe you just don't like, or...maybe you just don't get it...who's to say.

I've never watched an epsidode so I can't really comment. I have to many other addictions to tv shows right now to start this one :P

But on LadyLove's comment, Walker was an insane show!

Take it easy on the lass, Lost fans are the majority and often a minority has a right to 'rage' against the *masses*.

To relate: I'm jewish and I admit hating all of you crazy Christians, catholics.. whatever.. when you drive up the prices at the stores, hog the aisles with your disobedient **** during "Christmas". I dont celebrate this, why do I have to deal with your problems? When you find someone you can sit back and relate to.. without them calling me a commie or a devil worshipper then its just.. bliss.

(Honestly, I've had it happen twice. A pentagram isnt a Star'O'David, sweetie!)

AMEN!

And it's after sundown on a friday night, so I really shouldn't be writing anything until tomorrow night.

Actually Lost is an incredibly complex show which, if you are into it, really makes you think. I think Lost is, no offense, for those of us with more expanded minds. People who watch it are not brain dead. If you have been to Premium Link Upgrade and look at the massive theory, it would surprise you how much thought some people put into it.

Well said mate.
I don't see how this show is made for "the brain dead" at all.

But if people actually think that, then maybe its THEM who are brain dead...

I saw no name calling from anyone but her (even in general) we only spoke our feelings as well and I don't see where this has to do with anything that you speak of. Calling out Christmas and others ********. You sure as hell stretched that one. I notice you bring that up a lot, you being Jewish I mean. I don't see others pointing it out trying to say that you're different or whatever, only you. :dunno:

I for one take great offence to you saying you **** me for my religious beliefs and feel you owe the Christians and Catholics a apology. These statements have no place anywhere, much less in a tread about a friggin' TV show.

As for the show I still stand by what I said before, like anything its a matter of taste. We all don't like the same things, its a fact of life.

With Lost it is almost like they didn't know if the show was going to last and they didn't write out the entire story before hand so they just come up with a bunch of ever crazier stuff every couple of weeks to through it in the show and make it fit somehow. Over the long term that isn't a recipe of success because someday you going to be watching a show and your going to say :wtf: how the hell did we end up at this point, especially when you remember how the show began.

This isnt totally true. They DO have a final outcome, the major parts of the story have already been written (eg, why they are on the island, the numbers, the full story of the others, and many many other bigger storys)
but what they make up along the way are the smaller stories. Like some of the flashbacks, or things that have come along since maybe the second series.

That's a terrible comparison. In fact, I find it to be completely invalid. She doesn't like the show, and that's fine with me, I honestly could not care less if she like the show or not. I don't hold it against her that she doesn't like it, nor do I hold it against her for saying she doesn't like it. The problem is that she said that she didn't like it, and then went on a tyrade about how people who do like it are idiot, fools, and asses, and yes, that's exactly what she was saying when she was talking about the "masses" because in that little essay, they masses were Lost fans.

I'll go back to slapping my globe now.
