Thank You Science

Science is the one and only way to knowledge

sure. if prayer wasn't working, its because god doesnt love you. or you weren't doing it hard enough.

It's like Mariah's Invisible Man obsession...prayer is not claimed to have the power to grant wishes, any more than a wishing well or blowing an eyelash off your fingertip; prayer has it's power, just like a mantra does, and since those spending too much time scoffing at the God-believing folks will not go in that direction, you'll never get the science of it.
Faith will break boards with a hand's edge, lack of faith will break the hand. Call it faith or science, it works the same.

To be fair - and yes, this is mean the rabid atheist saying this - prayer has its place. It's nothing more than a placebo, but the placebo effect is surprisingly powerful. That's why studies done where the recipient of prayers knows they're being prayed for do show improvements (whereas studies done where the recipient does not know does no better than normal - meaning that it's entirely a placebo).

Ultimately, though, science remains the most powerful and useful tool mankind has.

Then again, for the sake of argument, by the concept of what "God" is he can do anything so the answer would be yes. For the sake of argument, lets assume he‘s real. Just because such a being decides not to answer every prayer in a way we know of, for whatever reason, doesn't mean he can't do it. Trying to disprove something like that by lack of evidence of existence isn’t a sound method. All it can prove to those people that try to do so is at best they know nothing. For the sake of argument an omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient being can do a lot of things science tells us we will most likely never be able to do. So could those things be accomplished though the power of prayer, no? Could they be accomplished by the thing that people believe answers prayer? I guess people's answer to that depends on what one believes of a higher power.

I believe in double standards.

It's been working for you fuckers for a while. It's about time we tried it on for size.

Yea, double standards exist in everyone. He that doesn't have them cast the first stone.

The prayer thing. Science has proven that stress and mental anguish causes many things to our bodies, right? Brains affect our bodies. People meditate. Some go to the gym. Some spend a few moments during the day to relax their minds and self reflect. And yes, some pray to that make believe person. Do any of these things hurt? No. You get what you need in your head whatever way you can get it.

Oh, I'm well aware I have my own double standards and biases, I'm not trying to deny that. Personally, I at least try to be aware of them and recognize how they influence me. I've had mixed results with that though, haha.

I do have a couple questions though. To whom are you referring with "you fuckers" and who exactly is the "we" you speak of?
