Is Jeb Bush done for?

I know we're over a year out and there's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip but things don't look good for Jeb. He's got major donors who have abandoned him and are calling for Romney to get into the race. Whereas Trump is electrifying crowds and you can't stop watching whenever he's on. Whenever Bush is speaking, looking at the crowd behind him, it's like he's at an AARP meeting and he's always going on and on about how conservative he is. What's the old adage? "If you have to point it out ..."

Bush couldn't get the conservative base to vote for him what with all his talk about breaking the law being an act of love and then doubling down on it. I bet he wasn't counting on being called "the retarded *******."

Unless Romney does change his mind it still looks to me like Bush is the GOP's best bet in a general election.

The balance are either too far right or a circus act named Trump.

So what if he's not conservative enough for many conservatives. The idea is take the office back, correct? So go with the person who'll appeal most to voters in the middle, because they're going to determine who wins.

I'd argue Trump isn't a true Republican or particularly conservative and if he runs third party he's gonna fuck **** up; just like Perot did. You underestimate how many people want an honest-to-goodness conservative to run. People didn't give Reagan a shot in '80 or '84 and look what he did (yeah he almost bankrupted us and his message was conservatism but he spent like a liberal, I get it.).

I'm not seeing that, Ace. Not at all. I don't think the "silent majority" want an ideologue from either side.

People didn't give Reagan a shot in '80 or '84

How so?
He was the favorite heading into the 80 Republican primary.
And in 84 he was expected to win big in the general election and did.

No. The GOP leadership at the time hated Reagan and thought he'd hand the '80 election to Carter.

McCain was all but dead in the water in late 2007, his funding had dried up and he pulled it off. The dynamic is different now, the anti estab movement is palatable. I think Trump may be a little more conservative than he let on in the past, but by no means a Reagan conservative. He had to make deals with the devil in New York, hell, if I were practicing in NY I would probably try and pass myself off as a lib too.. The left and the estab GOP **** his guts so for me he has some redeeming qualities. He needs to stop with the bible is my favorite book crap, he is not religious, and is ******* me off with the pandering. Evangelicals seem to be willing to support a casino owner, twiced divorced which is perplexing it all comes down to he is willing to build a wall, stand up to ******* aliens and knock the hell out of ISIS. I believe he would do those things and that is what the angry base want the most . He needs to ratchet down his protectionism talk, that will **** the economy and trade even more. Larry Kudlow needs to get his buddy on the phone and yank a knot in his ass. But, he can win. Do not doubt that for a moment.

I think that if Trump, Carson, or Sanders win they will be a one term ineffective executive. It isn't because of their capabilities, but their alignment with the parties and the lack of support they will get.

So, I don't think Jeb is dead. He should be concerned, but he is far from dead. I don't want to see a Bush or a Clinton in the White House. However, I'm open to another Adams.

What do I know - I actually think the Bush and Obama presidencies are fairly even and that pisses everyone off. Bush had a better working relationship with the other party and Obama has had better luck.

Yes he seems to be attracting few supporters, however he already has over $100 million in funds and he has almost the same advisers as his ******* who ran the dirtiest, but successful, campaign in 2000.

Out of Cruz and Rubio, I'd say that Jeb is more Latino than both of them and he's white. As someone of Mexican heritage I can relate to him more than the other two. Jeb speaks fluent Spanish, married a Mexican woman and his **** are Mexican just like me. People forget that GWB did very well with the Latino vote when he won 35% in 2000 and 44% in 2004. If Jeb makes it to the general he'll do well with the Latino vote and the Democrats know this

Except for a few exceptions, mental incapacity, disabilities or the 50/20 requirement etc, to become a naturalized U.S. citizen you have to read and speak English. So why in the fuck is any candidate for office speaking to potential voters in Espanol? We are courting a segment of the population that can neither legally vote or they are not teaching their ******** English to start with. Either way, that is more than enough reason to end birthright citizenship or deport a **** load of them. They have no desire to assimilate and the importance of the Hispanic vote is a big lie that is going to be exposed this next election. If Mitt Romney had won 70 percent of the Hispanic vote he still would have lost.

It's a long time ago but that does ring familiar. Based on the below the GOP leadership must have been highly at odds with GOP voters then, yes?

"As the 1980 presidential election approached, incumbent Democratic President Jimmy Carter appeared vulnerable. A large field of Republican challengers soon emerged. Former Governor Ronald Reagan was the early odds-on favorite to win his party's nomination for president after nearly beating incumbent President Gerald Ford just four years earlier. He was so far ahead in the polls that campaign director John Sears decided on an "above the fray" strategy. He did not attend many of the multicandidate forums and straw polls in the summer and fall of 1979."

"Reagan swept the South, and although he lost five more primaries to Bush—including the Massachusetts primary in which he came in third place behind John B. Anderson—the former governor had a lock on the nomination very early in the season."

I would concur. I'm not Jeb supporter by any means but he was answering a question that was posed to him by a reporter from Telemundo for chrissakes. She asked the question in Spanish, he answered in Spanish. It slays me that some people get so twisted about stuff like this. Also, according to the Pew Research Center there are about 25 million registered Hispanic voters in the USA. If the GOP wants to write them off as being insignificant, OK by me.

The potential First Lady Columba Bush, speaks less English than Vladimir Putin. He addresses Hispanic groups in Espanol quite frequently and he ran ads in Florida where Columba was speaking completely in Espanol. He needs to redo his campaign logo, it should read ¡Jeb!

At the risk of going off topic (like that never happens here: ) . How do you do you get an upside down exclamation point (as you just did) or question mark in this forum?

My ****** is an immigrant from Mexico who's been in the country for almost 40 years, is a citizen and speaks fluent English and Spanish. Is the fact that he speaks Spanish and watches say Univision or Telemundo or any other type of Spanish language programming proof that he hasn't assimilated?
