The New Case Against Immigration

The New Case Against Immigration, Both Legal and *******
by Mark Krikorian

We've all heard the laments: "My grandpa from Sicily learned English, and my grandma from Minsk got by without welfare. So what's the problem with immigrants today?"

As Mark Krikorian argues in this provocative book, what's different today is not the immigrants, but us. Today's immigrants are very similar to those of a century ago, but they are coming to a very different America -- one where changes in the economy, society, and government create fundamentally different incentives for newcomers. In other words, the America that our grandparents came to no longer exists. And this simple fact must become the new starting point for the explosive debate about immigration policy.

Krikorian argues that although mass immigration once served our national interests, in today's America it weakens our common national identity, limits opportunities for upward mobility, threatens our security and sovereignty, strains resources for social programs, and disrupts middle-class norms of behavior.

So as the politicians argue about border fences and amnesty, they are missing the bigger picture: the harmful impact of large-scale settlement of all kinds of immigrants, whether legal or *******, skilled or unskilled, temporary or permanent, European or Latin or Asian or African. Modern America has simply outgrown immigration, and we must end it before it cripples us.

"Mark Krikorian steps back from today’s debates and examines the big picture, questioning the place of immigration in a modern society. Agree or disagree with his proposals, this is an important book -- not just for conservatives, but for all Americans."
-- William J. Bennett, host of Bill Bennett's Morning in America

When it comes to our immigration mess, no one has a deeper understanding of the facts than Mark Krikorian. Pay attention: America's future is at stake."

America has a common nation identity. Like it or not.

Many Americans have been in America for generations.

I asked you to define our "common national identity". What is it, what is it comprised of, how are we losing it? Please give an actual response.

"been in America for generations. " Take a moment and read your own comment.

Tell me, Will, wasn't William Bradford an ******* immirant ? I mean, did he and the other pilgrims from the Mayflower asked the indigenous before settling on their lands ?

It's not my fault you don't want the truth.

America's identity: Freedom, Freedom of speech, Christianity (like it or not), Independence, The ****** unit (Husband and wife), Capitalism, Private property, Private ownership, independent wealth, American exceptionalism.....

America's identity: [...] Christianity
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Seems like your idea of american identity denies the 1st amendment of the US Constitution. How akward...

Please define our "common national identity".

Sure, I'll take a stab at it.

Western in general basis, meaning that the ideals and general philosophies that we subscribe to have a basis in Greek/Roman/European history. Getting more specific, the US is, at heart, a *** of Britain. We speak English, our customs are largely handed down from Britain, and our history is largely shaped by the British/English schema. The US also has a larger European influence as well, specifically German. If you look at the historic customs that are handed down from Britain and Germany, that is the basis of our national identity. The US is also a melting pot, and other cultures have influenced our national identity as well.

That said, the national identity, boiled down to as brief as possible, is a European/British/German-focused one, with an English core. It's who and what we are. Yes, we're a melting pot, but the idea of a melting pot is that other cultures blend in.

The vast majority of immigrants, ******* or otherwise are hispanic. Are you accusing hispanics of not being overwhelmingly Christian?

How are immigrants undermining the ****** unit?

Freedom, Freedom of speech,........ Capitalism, Private property, Private ownership, independent wealth, American exceptionalism.

These are exactly what these immigrants are coming here for. Again, please explain how immigration interferes with any of these.

You haven't made a single point Will. Everything you claim to stand for is a direct contradiction to the things you say. You rail against freedom, you seemingly **** democracy, and you have absolutely no use for self-determination.

No the Christianity point is untrue. Although I realize Christians would love to assimilate us all into the 'hive' the identity of this country is freedom of all religions Christian, Muslim, Buddhists, or any other religion a free person chooses to embrace. Or even the choice to reject religion is a personal choice like it or not worm. As to the ****** unit, why do you limit '******' to husband and wife???? My ****** has aunts, Uncles, cousins, grandparents, ********?? America is very simple it is the right to be you without anyone else being able to make or tell you otherwise. All this other crap is just rhetoric.

And how is that a good thing?

Careful there, Will. This Mayhem character was an NCO in the Army. :rofl2:

He's a BAD-ASS! So much so, he now is a card dealer in a casino. Which explains why he takes the "my way or no way" approach in here with anything he doesn't agree with.

He's the "BOSS" when dealing the cards. What he says goes! He likes to use that same "bully pulpit" in here just like he does at his card table.

What are you babbling about now? Please read your post and tell me how anyone is supposed to get the impression that you're not a 14 year old girl. Every day you show what a pussy you are, more and more.

Hmmmm I believe you are Handicapped.

There is no national identity. Assimilation is for the week. I applaud the New York/ Jersey Italians who stick to speaking Italian, root for Italy, and burn the usa flag.

Or the Arabs who stick to their strange language, practice their odd customs, root for their Arab teams, and also burn "old glory".

Practice your culture, and tell white anglo jagoffs to go fuck themselves.

Michelle who?! You don't mean Michelle "The Angry Asian Dwarf" Malkin, do you??? From what I know of her, her parents skated into this country on an employer sponsored visa, her *** was preggers with her and Michelle became their "anchor baby." Hell, you'd need an armed squad of ICE agents to get that bunch back to the Philippines now!
