Wins lottery after being dumped

Jilted young man with two jobs wins $30.5m in lottery

Unlucky in love, but lucky in the lottery, a 22-year-old Hyannis man who was recently dumped by his girlfriend has won $30.5 million.

And Sandeep Singh says he’s hoping not to get any calls from the woman who jilted him now that he’s a millionaire.

“She broke up with me, but right now, I’m not really worried about it,” Singh said. “I was heartbroken at first, but now I’m getting over it.”

Singh, who currently works at two jobs to help his ****** make ends meet, won $4 on a scratch-off lottery ticket and used those meager winnings to buy four quick pick Mega Millions tickets, including the winning $30.5 million ticket.

Singh, who goes by “Sunny,” came forward with his ******, ******, and niece Wednesday to claim his prize. Singh elected to receive the money in a one-time, lump sum payment of approximately $23 million. After taxes, he should net about $16.1 million.

The winning numbers, 13-37-40-46-52 and a Megaball of 29, were announced Tuesday. A winner in Fresno, Calif., and Singh are splitting the $61 million prize, according to the state lottery.

But Singh said he hadn’t heard that the big winner was from Hyannis. He got home from work and checked the lottery’s website just before midnight Tuesday.

“I was in my ******’s room on the computer reading the numbers,” he said at a press conference Wednesday evening at state lottery headquarters in Braintree. “I didn’t know what to do. I dropped the ticket.”

Singh said it took a while for reality to sink in. He had been playing Mega Millions and Powerball every two to three weeks for about a year. He was still in shock.

“I always told them one day I’ll eventually win and they never believed me,” Singh said, “but it happened.”

It was Singh’s older ****** who actually purchased the winning ticket, he said.

“I thanked her so much,” he said. “Words can’t explain what she’s done for our ******.”

Singh said he will definitely share the money with his ******, who is his only sibling. He plans to pay off his ******’s mortgage, share the prize with ******, and donate money to charity.

“Just pay my ***’s house off, that’s the main thing,” he said.

Singh has been helping pay his ******’s bills for years, working multiple jobs to make ends meet.

He started working at McDonald’s as a teenager. He said he will be giving his two weeks’ notice at Best Buy. Singh also works as a teller at Citizens Bank and said he will give his two weeks’ notice at the end of the fiscal quarter in December, according to the state lottery.

“My *** was around and then he ****** away my freshman year of high school, so that’s when I really started helping out,” he said. “My *** needs the help and my ****** could use it, so God definitely helped us out at the right time.”

Singh studied computer science for two years at Cape Cod Community College and hopes to use some of the money to get his bachelor’s degree in business. Singh said he never thought much about a “***** school” but will look into the University of Massachusetts.

Singh said he is unlikely to play the lottery again and is not yet sure how the prize will affect his life.

“Hopefully for the better,” he said.

The winning ticket was sold at AM/PM Convenience on Bearses Way in Hyannis. The store will get a $50,000 commission from the win, Beth Bresnahan, spokeswoman for the lottery said.

Singh said he had no special method, lucky numbers, or favorite store. He just buys quick picks from whatever place he is near.

“If I’m around, I have, like, a dollar to spare or two dollars, I’ll get a scratch ticket or something,” he said.

Candido Oliveira, of Dorchester, was the last Massachusetts resident to win the Mega Million jackpot, said the state lottery. Oliveira won a $32 million jackpot on Aug. 19, 2011.

He better find a good lawyer and get a prenup now.

Lump sum is good...

Then convert it to something hard. Never know when the dollar is gonna go to nothing...

Oh wait, were almost there...

$30.5 million, lump sum payment of approximately $23 million, After taxes, he should net about $16.1 million.

That's not good.

Taxes should not be taken out of anyone's winnings. If you win the lottery they should pay what you have won, not half or less.

The 30 to 23 reduction really isn't a reduction. The pot is 23, yet falsely advertised as 30 by the state...

The state allows falsities as long as it's to their benefit...

Winnings from ******** have been considered income for quit sometime, and taxed as such.

Just be glad it's not France, He'd need a really good accountant... :D

California, you don't have to pay taxes on winning, but you still have to pay government taxes. And on lump sum you pay a huge amount.
But if you get 26 annual there is a reduction of around 25%, and that lessens every year.

Annual payments is always better. At least it is for the responsible person who knows how to manage their money. They can just live off interest.
Lump sum is for greedy, and the percentages of people who take lump sums are broke within 2 years max.

I read this story yesterday and thought it was hilarious. I would love to see an interview with the ex-girlfriend - that's assuming she's not currently on suicide watch in a local mental hospital. :D

But right now, I can't worry about her. I need to get in touch with my ******, Sandeep Singh, and make sure that he's holding up OK. Ya know, just to see if there's anything that I, as a long lost fifth ****** twice removed, can do to offer my support. ****** is the most important thing, after all. :angels:

It's funny how it said he hoped not to get a call from his ex now he has won the lottery. It's got nothing to do with her anyway. She walked out on him she thought she was too good for him or tired of how his life was or both. She probably regrets doing what she did now. Serves her right, stupid bitch. He should drive by her place with the Guns n' Roses cover song "I Don't Care About You (Fuck You!)" blasting out the speakers and fling her the middle finger and shout "***** on that BABY!" and drive onwards laughing.

PS
This might dupliate as I am using my PS3 to post since my Laptop is being a prick in terms of it's HDD nor working then working then not etc, I've posted twice so far tonight and it's duplicated both posts in the other threads each time DAMMIT.

Off topic: why does the board do that now? I've had several of my posts duplicate themselves with that "Updated" insertion too. Does anybody know? I asked the question in the thread about board issues, but people were too busy making jokes and farting around to answer.

It's a puzzle so it is. It has never happened before when posting at least not to me anyway. But yeah I am puzzled as to why all of a sudden it does this. I turned the Java Script off on the PS3 browser and it doesn't duplicate posts now. But when Java is on it does. Could the Java thing be the cause?.

I'd happily take my 16M. I doubt he's weeping.

And he doesn't have to take the lump sum, he can take the payments that would total 30M before taxes.

This is income. Why should winnings not be taxed, but someone who works for their money has to pay it? Fuck that, I'd tax him more.

What ? Yes a good lawyer is a good idea but, as the girlfriend left him, there is no need for a prenup. If she wants to come back now and he takes her back then he deserves to get fleeced.

Good for him. Refreshing to see a 22 year old for a change instead of the regular 72 year-old Crypt Keeper winning it.

If it were me, I'd take the lump sum, take out probably $1M and then diversify a portfolio with the additional $14M (after taxes).

After buying a few of my ***** cars after I bought a decent house, I'd get my masters degree and probably another degree and then I'd probably buy land, lots of land. Land, IMO, is a very good investment; I'd buy land all over my state.

Supposedly on smaller jackpots,I think those under $10 million, the lump sum is usually the better option.Something to do with taxes or something.

The dollar will weaken over time too. So $50K you get this year (allowing you to do what you think is prudent with it) will not be the same you would get for a 20 year payout. Otherwise, the safe decision of course would be to take the payout (over time). Lump sum at least you can allocate that money now, and not in 20 years when who knows how much staying power it will have.

Not her for another female that might want to marry him.

Hyde, you cannot be in a position of authority. :nono: Many taxes are *******, please learn that lesson.

Also, Canada has something correct. They do not tax winnings.

Payments for me as well. I can live on the payments and buy a house and many other things.
Too many people want things instantly and that is their downfall.

Shouldn't quit work.
What would you do all day? A man needs to work.

He can start his own business or travel for awhile. Much better than slaving for someone who really doesn't care about you.

The main reason that there is a larger sum offered if you take the money in installments over a period of years, instead of a lump sum, is because of the time value of money - not taxes or whether the funds are accepted in dollars or gold. But you're essentially right. It's kind of like the old "bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" saying.
