They promised me Mars and I got the Internet.

When I was in elementary school I had a lot of dreams for technological, philosophical, and political advancements.

The year 2000, to me, represented a new age of hover boards, clean energy, and an extrmemely high overall quality of life.

I believed WE would have sent a man to Mars by now.

Those dreams have died. They've crumbled to the ground. Now that the dust has somewhat settled and I'm nearly 30, I realized that THEY created the internet rather than fund an expedition to Mars.

Am I right? Am I wrong? Should I still have dreams of an enlightened world built on the benevolence of science and humanity? Was the internet the great invention of my time?

I think he's still waiting for those blowjob robots he heard so much about.

Due to orbital realities, I gives a fuck about Mars. It's Moonbases that are the big letdown for me. Moonbases with big fuckin' cannons. And Moon Babes with no saggies in the reduced gravity.

Whatever your expectations are for the future, lower them 1000% and that will be reality. I doubt we ever get to the point where we have flying cars, public space travel and clean living as long as religion is as rampant as it is.

Where in the fuck are my flying cars? I was promised fucking flying cars, I WANT fucking flying cars! Those cocksuckers at Ford have let me down, yet again.

Mars Shmars. Newt'll just annex it.

I want transporters, so I can live anywhere in the world, and travel just a few seconds to work anywhere else in the world.

Where the fuck the transporters at?

I used to think it would be cool if we sent a manned mission to Mars but after the numerous programs I've seen about it, I have to agree that it is pretty much a suicide mission for those involved. It would take a hell of a lot of resources and funding for the whole thing. It takes over 200 days for us to reach Mars and then another 200+ to get back. That's just the journey there and back! I'm sure we would want them to spend some time there but Mars is a rather hostile environment and the longer we're there the longer it allows for more things to go wrong.

Sending robots is working fine for us now.

Also, why is the internet getting the blame for this? You say this as if scientists that were working on space missions were sitting there trying to figure out ways to reach Mars and then they couldn't think of any logical ways so they just decided to invent the internet instead. The internet wasn't created overnight; it's been used since the 50s by Russian scientists and it evolved from simple messages to one another to what we see before us.

There's a lot of things that were supposed to happen by now. Some may happen in the future. Others probably not.

As a *****, and not to mention a non-American, I used to see USA as a symbol of technological progress and a leader of space program. I had great hopes for this forein country of scientists and brilliant brains.

Now the same country virtually has no space program of its own. It has become a symbol of uncontrollable aggression against other countries and, thanks to Bush and also internet, no one believes it has any working brains left. No offence intended. I am just drawing a pictre of projection of this country that it imparts upon others because of worship of money and short term interests of its politicians.

I still see the potential of greatness but the willingness is nowhere to be found. Politicians! Time and money spent on science are not waste. What if scientists of earlier ages had the same ideas like you greedy power hungry poeple? You would still be attacking countries with arrows and swords.

Well I'm still waiting for a real Light Sabre I can run around with.

Any manned mission to Mars will have to come after scientists and physicians address the effects on the health of the astronauts that would travel there. A 3 plus year round trip would render the astronauts feeble without some way to counteract the effects that a reduced or zero G environment would put on their hearts and bone mass and muscular system. Some sort of artificial gravity system to exert ***** on their bodies or give them the ability to workout would have to be in place before an attempt could be made to travel there. If only for an hour or two each day. I believe there are candidates that are psychologically sound enough to travel there however.

Fixed. :1orglaugh

IMO, the old saying, "no matter where you go, there you are" will continue to haunt mankind until our kind ceases to exist. We will continue to think (as we always have) that by going somewhere else, we can leave behind the problems and issues that plague us where we are now. And it's never proven to be true. Other than the temporary sugar fix of saying, "we did it!!!", how would a mission to Mars benefit or change the life of the average person on Earth? Going to a different planet will not allow us to escape who we are or what our weaknesses are.

But now, the internet has truly changed the life of the average person all around the globe. This has made a REAL difference in people's working lives, leisure time and overall quality of life.

I'm more interested in the U.S. government making certain that our crumbling infrastructure is repaired and properly maintained, than I'm of us going to Mars, the moon or any place else. :2 cents:

Nobody wants to live on ugly Mars anyway. I'll take my free music/porn, thank you very much.
