Guessing The Use Of Old Technologies

******** Guessing The Use Of Old Technologies

This is a little video of a group of French [edit: French-Canadian] **** being handed pieces of old technology from the past 30 years and trying to determine what they are. Objects include a Game Boy, old Coleco Vision cartridge, 8-track player, record player, floppy disks of various sizes, and an old rotary phone. I'm not gonna lie, the **** fail pretty hard. Which is weird considering I feel like MY generation is at least aware of the technologies of yesteryear. But maybe that's just us. Or -- OR -- maybe this is just French-Canadian ****. Just remember, ****: "those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

It would have been better if they had been American ****. Then we could have devoted the next 30 posts to how stoopid Americans are, to the exclusion of the rest of the world.

I agree. It would have been better if they'd used subtitles or something.

Looking at the posts on that page link, most people do seem to be calling those **** "stupid"... or worse. I remember my *** showing me some of my grandfather's tools and bridle gear when I was a *** (probably about the age of these ****). I didn't know what the hell they were. But like these ********, without being told AT SOME POINT what they were (or having some base of reference), how in the world would I be expected to know what they were? :dunno: Why would someone born in 2003 or 2004 know what a 5 1/4 floppy is, or a 33 1/3 LP or a laser disc?

There is a difference between ignorance and stupidity. If you don't know how to pronounce a Latin phrase on a pill bottle, you're ignorant. But if you don't know how to read or comprehend the basic English directions on the bottle (and you're over the age of 18, were born in the U.S. and went to school here), there's a good chance that you're stupid - especially if you follow the Kardashians on Twitter, but don't know who your Congressman is.

I remember as early as the '80s, stories of **** that couldn't read a regular clock because of digital. I can understand **** not knowing what an 8-track tape is (an aberration of technological evolution if there ever was one). But records (45 and LP), and at least the 3.5 inch floppy ought to have their places in history.

I don't think this is about how stupid **** are. It is revealing how little we teach them about their own history.
