The replacement of people with machines can hardly ever be justified and we should protect jobs that could be displaced with new technology
What are your thoughts?

I am on the fence. On one hand, robots are often more efficient than humans and can work for longer with less breaks.

However on the other hand, now that we have 7 billion people on the planet, machines will just increase unemployment. Machines can't fix problems if something goes wrong. The subtlety and perceptive qualities of the human mind can’t possibly be matched by a robot.

Depends a bit of the job you're talking about of course...
Maybe a little more specific?
I mean, the job Im' in, I'm pretty sure robots won't take over the first 100 years.

Machines are the true rulers of the world. There, I said it. We merely exist to create and develop them to the point where they are able to function on their own, then subsequently harvested us for energy.

Machine aren't the problem. Whether they take up to many jobs in the future or not there are simply way too many people on the planet now.

All depends on the industry but in terms of mass produced goods then machines are needed to make the business competitive, machines could produce 1000s of items per day as opposed to 100s by humans who have to be paid as well as being prone to making mistakes, it's just the world we know live in unfortunately

A couple of things:

1. Machines don't build or maintain themselves (yet?). Every machine placed in a job site requires several workers to build it, and, more long term, maintain it. While I have serious reservations about machines replacing human labour, it isn't an apples to apples comparison.

2. Sybian. All men are replaceable by the sybian. We're fucked.

Machines nowadays are built to break, so that the purchaser must then replace them. There's a great argument for hiring people.

A friend of mine is a glass blower. Machines are unable to shape the lenss required for laser guided munitions precisely enough, so when the wars roll around, he gets a lot of business.

Finally I can apply for that Bladerunner position I have been chomping at the bit for.
