I sort of agree with you about the use of the term "troll" per se. The terms to describe the people I have in mind with what I said would be more fitting, believe you me. Of course the only ones I genuinely have a problem with are those who go out of their way to post ignorant **** just to get a reaction. MATURE ADULTS do not act that way. For example, threads that deal with subjects that are of no real interest to me, or are not my cup of tea....well guess what, I'm mature enough not to go into those threads to share my opinion....because, honestly there would be no point....whatever they like is cool with me, and I am not so desperately in need of attention that I need to post crap just to get a reaction.
Believe me, there is more than one person who regularly posts in here that clearly, to the rational observer, posts things, not so much to share an opinion, but to "stir things up" if you will, and to try to get reactions from people. Their so-called "opinions" are so all over the place often times (when their history is reviewed) that their intent is fairly obvious to an objective observer. I would point out that the 1st Amendment applies to governement action, so clearly it's not a license to act like a dick, and post ignorant **** on a message board whenever you feel like it.
The way I have observed several of the OCSMs (CLEARLY the REAL DRAW on here) being treated on here (and it's always dealt with.....AFTER the damage is already done), soon enough, there will be none of them left (at least no really active ones), and the board will be a "sausage factory". Is that what we want? Just sayin'! So, these "trolls" or whatever we want to call them do have the potential to do damage to/for everyone on here.....even if they aren't "directly attacking you" per se. That's why they DO need to be dealt with when they pop up IMHO! :2 cents:
Bottom line though, like I already said, the best thing to do is to IGNORE them, and hope against hope that they simply grow tired and go away.
In theory, that sounds like a reasonable plan. However, sometimes you actually want and/or need to know what the clowns are up to too. If you have them on ignore, then who knows what they are up to. It's better to just be mature and basically stay away from them as much as possible & deal with them and their garbage if, and as needed.
