variegated corn?

yum. i dont know if my corns gonna make it. moneys tight and its too fucking hot.

only one of my sunflower is thriving. its just about to open. watermelon is still growing like crazy though. im hoping they wont split this time..

oh, and <3 kitties!
 
I'm having a bit of trouble this year with my tomatoes, here's deal...

Instead of getting nice round fruit with nice smooth skin with flavorful juices, I'm getting fruit that has vertical ridges with tough skin with somewhat pulpy insides ... they're almost like those tomatoes we're all used to picking at season's end, just crap! Another thing I have noticed is, some of the tomatoes appear to be ''siamese twins'' with the same dismal ridges, thick skin and no juice!

more info & questions:
Continuing on my tomato plants....

The foliage is lush dark green and plentiful, I just don't know where to go from here because I've, thus far, only harvested about ten total pieces of fruit and there looks like there's about a hundred green tomatoes that are still in the ripening phase with many more blossoms on the way. I would estimate that one out of every three pieces of the green fruit are the retarded ridged types of tomatoes as described above... should I strip these ugly bastids now or leave 'em on the vine?

What type or fertilizer or plant supplement could I use at this time of the season and would such a supplement help in the development of fruit that has yet to become a blossom?

Can it actually be too hot to grow corn? What is happening, are the leaves and husks drying out on you?
Try throwing some clear plastic sheeting over the tops of some of these suckers ... try testing a greenhouse effect on one or two of 'em... see if you can get some condensation going and see what happens. :dunno:

Can't remember the variety of the corn - too bad, it is real yummy. I got the seeds from the greenhouse down the street.

And yes, three cats. CAT is 5-7 years old and the other two are around a year old. Best thing about these three is that **** in the neighbor's yard. :D

No dope in the garage (unless I decide to go in there) - just a bunch of crap left over from a former life.

I don't think I posted any pictures of the greenhouse though. It's actually a cold frame but it's kinda nice.

Fire danger her on the front range is high. We didn't get much rain here on the plains but the mountains got a lot of snow so overall were still OK or water this year.
 
I got the first few courgettes (green) the other day. Just pulled 2 yellow off another plant but they just don't like all this rain. On the flip side, the pumpkins are LOVING it.

I need to stake my sunflowers, they're starting to fall over due to some wind we had recently.

I've written off the tomato plant and the squash.

My thyme and dill have gone crazy. So has the cat crack...it's flowering now so I don't think I have to worry about it not being established in my garden. I think I'll be finding rogue plants for years to come. :1orglaugh

I'm already starting to plot out what I'm going to do next year. I think when I go to the UK in January I may pop into a garden store and see what heritage variety of potato seeds they've got for sale then replace the pumpkin beds with potatoes since I see one of our local stores is finally starting to sell frozen pumpkin.

My strawberry plants aren't looking so hot from all the rain so I may have to pull them up as well and either replace them or put something else in that patch.

And of course I'll do courgettes again next year. Can't get better than garden fresh!

apparently i can be. this is the desert, after all. we're the hottest in the us at this time.

The 'Early Girl' hybrid tomato plants are still kicking out great fruit, although production has slowed down a bit. For a while there I was suppling half of the people on the block and I still had enough tomatoes to puree for two batches (1 gallon each batch - browned ground sirloin included) of my proprietary Spaghetti/Ravioli sauce. :yummie:

Because I don't see as many blossoms on the plants as I did a month ago, I'm going to begin an experiment that includes shaking the plants in the cool AM before sunrise and see what that might do for blossom production here in the season finale.:nanner:
 
we're still getting watermelons like mad on my side. its the craziest thing.

the round seedless variants or the elongated dark green seeded type?

How many in total this season, 10 - 20 ... more?!!

It also prolly wouldn't hurt for me to read some of the earlier posts before I go poppin off questions. :o
 
This weather is crazy the sweet corn is dried and looks like fall but many of my plants are in bloom again after a very hot mid-summer we're having a very stable, if a bit cool fall.

I just harvested the last watermelon, need to pick 4 eggplants, have tons of tomatoes and zucchini and beans and the sunflower seeds are ready to harvest.

Haven't been able to get out much since my arthritis ****** last month but my mobility is near normal again so I may be able to enjoy a bit of this beautiful fall weather.

Just pulled out my two tomato plant patch this afternoon. Yep, I started out in mid April with two 4'' high weedy lookin things and they grew into an area of about 3' x 8' x 6' tall and they delivered great flavorful tomatoes for four long months. I made two batches of spaghetti sauce (each about a gallon and a half in size) and I made about a gallon and a half of home prepped Salsa with cilantro, garlic, onion, mild green peppers and various spices, but no vinegar... not in my salsa. :D

Anyway, I have lots of salsa and spaghetti sauce in my freezer... time to go now . :yummie:

Yes it's a tipi (tee pee is what you get when you drink too much tea - :D) - I'll put the cover back on before it snows - we use it a lot in the winter.

Actually, the greenhouse is a tipi too - you can just see it on the right behind the garage.


I haven't pulled anything yet but I did pick everything I could. Still have a handfull of green tomatoes, a few hot peppers and an egg plant to bring in before we freeze.
 
Papagmp, there is great envy of your garden.

All I have is that stuff you hang off your balcony that provides me with some fresh herbs, basil, oregano, sage, chives and thyme. Its been good to me, but its certainly lacking in the "impressive factor".
