Britain-France military co-operation

I think these treaties are a good thing. I'm all for european militairy co-op. Sure, we don't have air craft carriers which have the size of small cities, but our Commando's sure match or are tougher trained than the U.S.' Seals or Rangers.

Well, if you tell me WHICH one I have a vastly improved chance of providing informed commentary on it.

A lot of countries rolled over, Hitler had built Germany as a war machine and France would've been destroyed in out and out military conflict (don't forget they held off the Italians pretty well who declared war on France when she was on the verge of defeat) and didn't have the luxury of being an island like Britain. Does the Norman invasion of Britain count as a French military victory?

And I have never heard the Fall of France in WWII called the Battle of France either.

Bah! Ulysses beat me to it by seconds.

As far as these treaties are concerned, I am quite happy with it. It means that we don't go sinking Billions on pounds into a nuclear deterrent on our own, and the cost savings over all for the military will be significant.

You could've saved what little dignity you had left by editing your post and putting in some other random nonsense about the French when you noticed I'd already referenced the Battle Of France ;) :glugglug:

I would count that as more of a defeat than a surrender.
Besides which, it's a bit unfair to paint the French as being totally incapable in combat, lets not forget just how formidable the Germans were; They pioneered modern tank tactics and had the worlds first use of a helicopter in a war for a start. Frankly, without the benefit of the sea, I believe Britain would have succumbed to the Nazis mere months after France. Now if you want to call the British surrender monkeys you can, but I invite you to take notice of the fact that they held down the worlds largest ever empire, so it doesn't really make sense - kind of like calling the French surrender monkeys.
And yes, I would count the Norman invasion as a French military victory.
I still regard my previous point about the spread and scope of the French empire as valid.

There's a lot of down-sides to aircraft carriers.

France fell because of archaic military strategy and corruption that pulled the rug out from beneath the 3rd Republic.

I'm sorry what was that about the Leclerc vs. the M1a2? Leclerc has yet to fire at another tank in combat.
The M1A2 has been blasting Soviet/Chinese/Russian tanks since 1991.

Stop whining about the F/A-18. It's a better multi purpose aircraft than most out there and once again it's been proven in combat.
Besides Canada is most likely going with the F-35 as a replacement.

France fell because of archaic military strategy and corruption that pulled the rug out from beneath the 3rd Republic.

Strange how the first post bears no relation to the latter... could it be because you have no viable defense of M1 and F18? I think it could...

Thats a fair assesment of where they were at in 1939 IMO.

And to the people who belittle France as having never won this or that, history says different.France was one of the most powerful nations for a long time, usually fighting with England or Spain for surpremecy. And the French were one of the main factors in the germans being defeated in the first world war suffering along with the germans and english atrocious casualties in the war.

I fully respect the French military, I always have. Some of the toughest soldiers are the French Marines and Paras, their Air ***** is among the best in the world, and they've been staunch allies of the Serbs since 1914.:hatsoff:

***** the F/A-18C,D,E,F is a top notch multi role aircraft that has served it's operators quite well and will do so for the foreseeable future.

The M1A2 is a battlewagon.................combat tested.

I'm sorry; I never sought to imply that you personally were down on the French military. My remarks were directed towards the guys who blanket judge them while knowing NOTHING about them. Sorry about the confusion.

The F18 series are ok, but no better. A 7.5G limit is just one of many problems.
The M1 is combat tested against the worlds stupidest excuse for an army.
Saddam couldn't even take Iran.
You've failed to address even ONE of the issues I've mentioned with either platform; at some point you're going to have to make a choice:

1: Address the issues I've raised. You won't do this because you have little recourse to them.
2: Ignore them and pretend they were never raised (you already tried this, which resulted in me double-quoting you to highlight that).
3: Blindly spout propoganda rather than admit the problem - the first step to fixing it (this was your second choice;
F/A-18C,D,E,F is a top notch multi role aircraft
The M1A2 is a battlewagon.................combat tested.
).
4: ****** my countries military in an attempt to change the target (this will be difficult because I've lived in so many countries and in any case won't work because the moment you pinpoint a genuine problem I'll just say "yeah, it needs to be fixed").
Your move :hatsoff:
