Somali Pirates Seize 2 Vessels Off Kenya

Mombasa, Kenya (AHN) - The German army on Sunday confirmed that pirates have hijacked a German freighter after attacking it 1,930 km (1,200 miles) off the coast of Kenya.

German shipping company Beluga-Reederei owns the vessel. The number of people on board was not immediately known.
The incident came just a day after pirates seized a Singapore-flagged liquefied-gas tanker with 17 crew on board 170 km off Mombasa. The captain of the ship was German.

A novel idea : "The U.S. Navy traces its origins to the Continental Navy, which was established during the American Revolutionary War and was essentially disbanded as a separate entity shortly thereafter. The United States Constitution provided the legal basis for a military ***** by giving Congress the power "to provide and maintain a navy".[5]
Depredations against American shipping by Barbary Coast pirates in the Mediterranean Sea spurred Congress to employ this power by passing the Naval Act of 1794 ordering the construction and manning of six frigates.[6] These ships were used to end most pirate activity off the Barbary Coast."

:dunno: Duh! Strap on a pair you international communitarians!! :flame:

Well the KSK will be on scene very soon to **** some pirates.

Ships need to be able to carry weapons to defend themselves from punks like that.

I agree. Certainly this issue has been present for hundreds of year, however the fact that this happens with any sort of regularity speaks to the need for the ships to be able to defend themselves.

thats amazing how just a few black guys with AKs, no tactical support, and an inflatable raft can seize a supertanker and ransom it. thats like a playstation style mission.

They ain't small-time amateurs any more.

They upgraded to GPS-Devices amd so on, so they can easily maneuvre around the 40 warships that are trying to do patroling in a sea area as big as the mediterranean sea. They go for ships who are not on the main travel lines and operate from former trawlers so you can't tell what they are until that trawler looses some speedboats and the action is on.

when i here of theses stories i always imagive them in there pirate boats and with one leg and eye patches with the joley roger flag, im guessing tho its a bit more high tech nowadays

Don't forget that an RPG can destroy a ship's wheelhouse rendering the vessel as nothing more than a sitting goose.

Clip:
The suspected pirates onboard the whaler were carrying six AK47s, a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) launcher with four warheads and six RPG booster charges, and a number of supplies, two hand-held GPS units, three make-shift ladder sections and four mobile phones.

To my knowledge there is only one way to defeat the incoming RPGs and that is
with the use of a chain link fence type of screen placed between a soft target and a would be combatant. If I recall correctly, RPGs are strictly line of sight weapons, whereas a mortar is strictly a trajectory travel type of weapon . . . even more difficult to defeat.

I just want to know who set up these rules of non engagement . . . prolly a gaggle of ivy league intellectuals over in the UN building. :*****:

Just **** them. Start putting, without public knowledge, armed guards on the ships and when these idiots try to steal they all get a slew of bullets inside their heads. :)

For as much value as the vessels and their cargo are worth they are usually pretty lightly guarded, and people generally don't like getting shot, especially to protect the property of the corporation they work for. It's not always a tough thing for the pirates to pull off.

Instead of a hijack, you'll have a bloodbath, with heavy casualties ont both sides (but mostly among the civilian 'cause, unlike the pirates, they ain't trained for combat).

i wish they would call them boatjackers instead.
These sons of biscuit eaters don't deserve the title Pirate.

Its an insult to this man (The greatest Pirate of all-time), and all of Pittsburgh in my opinion

If your going by baseball playing ability Honus Wagner was a better player, and in his day he was considered one of the most decent model citizens among people of that era. (Although with the amount of thugs baseball had back then that might not have been as hard of an accomplishment as today.)
