He's not a joke, he's a 42 year old, out of shape washed up boxer. Dana White is the joke for even allowing this to take place under a UFC banner.James Toney is a joke. Basically stole that money from Dana White.

Who in their right mind would pay to see a 42 year old, fat-assed James Toney fight an MMA Legend even if 47 years old??
That money would have been better used in the hands of a ***** off his ass panhandler.
James Toney in his prime was one of the best heavy weight fighters out there, the guy can fight!!! he almost beat Roy Jones Jr. in his prime, so the guy is a *******, I agree with HM, there is NO WAY in hell, boxers should be allowed to fight in the MMA its like apples and oranges. If I am Dana White, I Let Toney talk ****, I would NEVER put my sport/company in chincy situations!! Dana White should have never let that fight happen, Toney of course is gonna shoot off with the mouth about boxers being able too beat MMA fighters, truth is, once a boxer goes down all his advantages are out the door! MMA fighters are trained in all types of Martial Arts mixed with boxing, wrestling etc... its really no contest, or question who the better fighters are. Dana White should be ashamed of himself. does this ruin MMA? NO, it makes the MMA look bad, but if they don't place GIMMICK fights as headliner PPV events then it will be forgiven, but no more of that **** IMO. :2 cents:
Whether its a joke or not, Dana and Randy wanted to deliver a message to the world of boxing to "shut the fuck up" as they've been running their mouths up for years that boxers are the better fighters. If you listened to the pre-fight interviews that Dana said that Toney has been chasing him for years...calling Dana and other MMA fighters names. When Toney got what he wanted, he was trash-talking Randy before the fight. Well, current IBO HW boxing champ Toney was embarrassed and the message was delivered. Boxing has loss some of its respect and credibility years ago because of alleged involvement in ******** and throwing fights. MMA/UFC is the premier fighting event today.
SF8 :2 cents:
so Dana himself says. If Tyson wanted to fight in the UFC Dana will sign him in a heartbeat.
Boxers in general are far more skilled boxers than MMA fighters. MMA fighters in general are far more skilled fighters than boxers.
Putting James Toney against Randy Couture doesn't represent anything in my eyes. James Toney is a severely out of shape boxer past his prime. Couture is one of the best ever at MMA and in great shape by any age standard.
If this fight represents anything it is the lengths to which White will go to lower the standards of his game.
It's hard to suggest a way White could avoid it though if Toney convinced himself he wanted to do it. If a guy claims he has trained and has some professional skill it's hard to find a way to deny the fight if the two guys want to do it. If Toney is calling out Couture, I don't expect Couture to walk away from that...but make no mistake, the only thing that happened was James Toney was shut up.
James Toney is never going to shut up. Call JT what you want, but don't call him a pussy... fact still remains, he's the only boxer to actually go this route, especially amongst those who talked ****. Also, he still has yet to be knocked out, neither Holyfield or RJJ was able to do the job.
JT lives anyone, anytime, anywhere... no matter what. I, more or less, lost some respect for Couture in this one. Here's a man in JT who knows he was out of shape, hadn't been boxing, and he comes to your world as a man ready to fight your style, in your back yard, and you don't even at least attempt to show you stand up skills. You bill yourself as an all-around fighter, but didn't fight an all-around fight. Show some respect to the warrior that came in even when there are MMA fighters that back down from fights with you. In the end, Couture didn't break JT. In fact, Toney was generally unfazed and undamaged by the loss. That fight didn't really do anything for anyone, at all. Period.
anyhow now that you mention it like that, I agree with you. Couture didn't want any part of Toneys fists. James Toney is never going to shut up. Doing anything other than what will maximize winning for you under the rules in a sport is stupid in my opinion. If somebody intentionally doesn't do things the sport allows them to that will help them just because they don't feel like it, it's not really playing the sport. I'm not going to blame Couture because he's not stupid or because he does MMA things IN A EVENT THAT'S A MMA FIGHTING CONTEST. When one is out of shape, past their prime, and out of their element they shut their damn mouth instead of talking trash to those people who will kick their ass, and that person should also stop pretending to be more than they are.
A better thing to take from this is boxing is in no way shape of form fighting. It's a game, with a lot of arbitrary constrained rules that has one fighting like element to it. It and it's fans like to pretend it's fighting and it's not. That's what needs to be realized. If there is a lesson to this match that is it. It's barely closer to fighting than kick the can is. While this wasn't a good match given the boxer who was fighting even the greatest boxers in history would lose the vast majority of times to even a mediocre MMA person in a fight. Even with somebody like Mike Tyson, who was mentioned before, there were probably even millions of regular people out there that could have beaten him in his prime with no weapons and with no lucky punches landing either way in a street fight or in a MMA type match. There is no way that happens to somebody like Couture, let along somebody like Lesner right now.
Now, if somebody want's to argue this was a stupid gimmicky match for a PPV, and something else a lot better could have been done then I will agree with them for the most part.
