The boringness and negativity of television series

"Regular" television sucks ass.

I've have not seen any shows on the big four stations in the US in years.

Somke one was talking about Dexter....

Honestly, I liked a lot in the beginning. But I felt that there was something not good about it. The guy is a (sick) serial killer. I know Jean luke Picard blew up tons of enemy battleships to protect the Federation, but that is different.

Dexter is not a hero who's hunting down criminals and puts them behind bars and let justice system handle it, like any cop show. The basic is that we all watch a serial killer, and just because he's ******* bad people makes him a good guy? Sorry,........no.

This is because we only remember the great ones. For ever Star Trek: The Next Generation, there was a Misfits of Science. For every Cheers, there was a Small Wonders. As the years go by, we forget the pure ****, we remember the greats. Twenty years from now, we will be wondering why we no longer see great shows such as Lost, Fringe, Monk, 30 Rock, Futurama, 24, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Modern ******, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Dexter...

Of course, by then, we will have forgotten about Cavemen, The Class and the thousands of trash reality shows.

There's is a problem with that. Lost, Fringe, Monk, 30 Rock, and 24 aren't good. Dexter wasn't anything I would consider great, and the rest besides Futurama I've never even seen. About the only good show you listed is Futurama and that didn't even last long on national network television.

Lost might be one of the most overrated shows in the history of television. All the nonsense they made up as they went along and all the tripe they shoved into it give it false complexity made it like a combination of all the bad aspects of the X-files and Twin Peaks combined then put on steroids. 24 isn't that far behind it on the overrated scale, and it and it's format got old after the first or maybe the second season if one is being generous. 24 is also a prime example of the dark and edgier stuff shows put out now where it seems you have the bad guys fighting the worse guys. If you're lucky we might get some anti-hero. It's like producers find it bad for a show to have a protagonist that's good guy anymore.

Sure there were plenty of flops in the past, and they sucked, but there were also a lot of good shows. Now the good shows are really getting few and farther between them.

Like beauty entertainment is in the eye of the beholder. The show I think is the greatest of all time you may feel is the worst. :dunno:

Stan's opinion is just as valid as yours. :2 cents:

As time goes by it becomes harder to generate fresh and entertaining ideas but on the whole I agree with you on this.

Well there has been a lot of crime & death on TV the last decade:
Law & Order, Law & Order SVU, Law & Order CI, CSI, CSI Miami, CSI NY, NCIS, NCIS LA, Bones, numb3rs, I'm sure I'm missing a few.

No, I actually think TV saw another golden age in shows like Lost, 24, Heroes (Season 1) and True *****. And the best part is - True ***** is still ongoing! xD

Doesn't the ages annoy everybody?

I mean: Most main characters are between 20 and 30. It's like people beyond 30 aren't watching TV anymore? ( I am 29 by the way )

And a lot of TV people between 20 and 30 have knowledge and experience of real life people varrying from 40 to 50. And a lot of TV people between 40 and 50 are as dump and unexperienced as a lot of teenagers.

The only character from the eighties I asked this question about is Wesly Crusher who was sometimes piloting the Enterprise ....WTF?

Quite a depressing trend, indeed. I heard Disney is currently producing The Suite Life of Zack & Cody In Rehab , Crack Whore Musical and the Miley Cyrus special Hannus Montanus about a girl struggling with her gender identity and deciding to get sex change surgery.

yeah i heard about that. miley becomes mikey and stops wearing makeup

I believe television is a dying whore.

Agreed. The only decent shows are on the cable stations these days.

But in this case, all the reality TV shows, retarded sitcoms, and other mind-numbing content they spew out every week is a reflection of their viewers desires. People are getting more retarded by the day and want anything to keep them from thinking.

I don't know about youse guys, but I'm really looking forward to the Real Housewives of D.C. premiere. Now that the Real Mafia Housewives of New Joysie (New Yawk and Orange Cunty) has proven that the south doesn't have a total lock on White trash/low class behavior, I'm thinking that the Housewives of D.C. might be an Emmy winner. That's what we need: some more hagged out, past their prime, plastic surgery nightmare, old sluts with **** whore mentalities... trying to get their 15 minutes of fame. Whoopee!!!

Well, that's OK. DirecTV is now showing uncensored episodes of The Wire on The 101. And Mad Men comes back on tomorrow night. Hopefully Breaking Bad will be back for at least two more seasons. So I still have a few shows I can stand to watch.

I believe television is a dying whore.

I wish. But I think the types of shows that get the ratings (and make money) are the types of shows that Hollyweird makes more of - and why not? It's like when SUV's were big sellers a few years ago. Every car company brought out their version of an overweight people mover. They milked that cow until she (finally) stopped giving milk.

Even back in the 80's, NBC was going to cancel Hill Street Blues... until the fans waged a write-in campaign to save it. These days, niche cable channels (like AMC) seem to have picked up the demand for shows that require more than a moron's IQ to watch. The bigger commercial networks are taking the GM/Chrysler route. You can apparently make a lot of money appealing to that least common denominator. So why not take the easy way out and sell the crap that dipshits love to watch? Snooki! Da Situation! Wut wil de do dis week? Millions will tune in to find out, I'm sure.

IMO, the real problem is the ever increasing dumbing down of society.

the new futuramas have been disappointing

Futurama originally was going downwards from season 3, where the only stories went about Fry, Bender and Leela. The others never got an interesting backstory episode.

And now season 6 is just crap. Zoidberg and Zap aint that funny anymore....
