Scott Brown in Massachusetts

I think people are reading too much into this victory, both against the Dems and for the GOP. It seems to be a vote of no confidence for the current direction of the Federal government, plain and simple. The economy is weak and all of the deficit spending hasn't helped, and most people see the Federal debt reaching alarming levels right now. It was a sgnal to Washington: Make tough choices, stop spending money we don't have!

Excellent observation. It's a repudiation of government in general, not an endorsement of the republican agenda (which, from my vantage point, seems to be simply to say "no" to everything without having any plausible alternative answer).

What a God-damned shame we don't have a more legitimate option than the rotten-ass two parties from which we have to choose right now. If only the Libertarian Party could actually become a relevant possibility instead of just an amusing sideshow....:dunno:

Brown ran against a lame candidate...

A Thanksgiving day turkey would have had a better pulse and made a better opponent.:2 cents:

As good as these news were, lots can happen between now and November. ACORN could somehow find itself receiving money from the Obama administration, Big Labor could start strongarming people and create chaos in the elections.... or (I hope) this makes the Democrats come to their senses and stop being so arrogant about the way they're running things.

Maybe they'll send this health care "reform" (more like deform) bill back to the drawing board and this time they include some ideas from the Republicans. Yes, believe it or not, Republicans have ideas about reforming health insurance policy, but those ideas are based on the free market, which "liberals" don't believe in anyway so they don't even consider them, knee jerk reaction of them.

Cap and trade is another bad idea, I mean, what is the cost-benefit ratio of such thing? Is it worth wrecking the economy even more and reducing your lifestyle just to try to decrease the average world temperature a couple tenths of a degree? I don't think so.

Sweden? Denmark? I think they should be told.

Good point. You've got me on that one.

I still worry about socialism creaping in. Even if I don't prosper under capitalism. I like the idea that you get what you earn. Entitlement blows. I think that the first year of Obamas presidency has proven that the rich still stay rich. The redistribution goes from the middle class to the lower class. I know people may call this heartless, but some people don't really deserve as much as others because they don't bother to obtain and skills and knowledge to prosper. We all pass those people along the path of our lives. The jokers in school that didn't put in the effort and partied all the time while others worked their butts off are now working for us and think it is not fair that we have more. Socialism is the answer to them. Just have the government take from the haves and give to the have nots. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to them.

Brown seems like a fairly moderate Republican. Anything that shifts the power in that party away from the fundies is a very good thing.

:nono: The worst thing that could happen.

This is just a foreshadowing of the huge beat down that the Democrats will suffer in the upcoming elections.

Great news.

Yes, tax and spend ********.

In an epic upset in liberal Massachusetts, Republican Scott Brown rode a wave of voter anger to defeat Democrat Martha Coakley in a U.S. Senate election Tuesday that left President Barack Obama's health care overhaul in doubt and marred the end of his first year in office.

This is why liberal thought is so damn entertaining. When Obama won it was a repudiation of GWB, the conservative agenda and Fox News. The same thing was said in 2006.

This is not about spending in general, it's about specific spending. Moreover it is about people having to use their tax dollars to implement a health care system that most people do not trust to be as good as what they pay for out of pocket or have through their employer. The Republicans have won in 3 states recently. 2 of which nobody would have thought they would stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning. None of this is by accident. Maybe you have a point that Republican's have along way to go with delivering a message but when it comes to something as personal as health, people will listen to anyone that is more in their camp. The Republicans have been steadfast in their opposition to this socialized medicine clusterfuck and even those that would not consider voting Republican are doing so because they are petrified of what will happen if the Democrats ram all of this through.

Quite frankly, a plurality of Americans are scared to death to trust in a government run system when they have proven they can't even run the IRS efficiently. Even a liberal bastion such as Massachusetts is waking up to this stark reality. The Democrats had better hear the alarm clock soon or your clocks are gonna get cleaned in November.

Maybe it is because 69,456,897 people voted for President Obama and 1,168,107 voted for Sen. Brown and Dems still control the Senate 59-41.
