And the UK Have Elected Boris Johnson

How has this not made the front page of the P&R Section?

The role the media plays in politics should never be underestimated.

Living in Ireland, Steelers Wheel have a tune that resonates with me. I think its called Stuck in the Middle:)

Peace be with you:)

I had to laugh today when i heard that donald and Boris can't wait to start negotiating with each other. I'm not a fan of either one, but Boris is a shrewd and cunning operator, and trump is, well, trump. Boris is going to chew him up and spit him out, and the doofus will still swear that he got the better deal.

No doubt. Aided by the media. It amazes me when someone is actually proven to be a disrespectful liar it can be over shadowed by rumour and insinuations against some one else.

Mongo, I think you're giving too much credit to Johnson as a shrew operator. He's crass and ignorant at times.

I thought that too, but then I watched the John Oliver episode about him where John made a pretty good case that Boris carefully crafts that image. It was a bit of an eye opener for me. Premium Link Upgrade

Corbyn was a far worse candidate, he was a far leftist and had antisemitic ties to radical islamist groups

I makes you realize how the media is removed from reality. At least the non-Brit media has been portraying Borris as the "UK trump", brash, incompetent, etc. And yet he wins an overwhelming majority in a snap election. There's no "trump excuse", the UK already knew what he was like as a leader, and they re-elected him. So there's clearly more to him that makes him appealing.

A couple of things.

The UK didn't elect Boris, they put the Conservative party into power with Boris as it's leader, which by default makes him Prime Minister. We don't elect Prime Ministers here, we put parties into power and their leader gets the top job.

Boris is way smarter and shrewder than the buffoon image he regularly portrays. His actions since first becoming Prime Minster after being elected leader of the Conservative party (note, no general election) have been far from those of a buffoon or clownish character. I'm not a Conservative voter (not saying who I voted for, firm believer in the secret ballot and all that), but he's done well in sticking it to his rivals, inside and outside the Conservative party.

Basically the same in any country that elects a PM (Japan, Canada, Aussies, etc). And while I get some in those elections will base their vote on the local MP, no voter is ignorant to the fact that they are still "indirectly" electing the leader. I'm sympathetic to the voter who is torn between the local MP and the leader, but unless you have some examples I'm going on the majority assumption that most Brits knew what their vote was for.

I agree the guy is smarter than the media portrayed him as, and that's my point. I don't want to go all "Fake news", but I feel the narrative the international media posed portraying this guy as the Brit Trump was misleading or just plain lazy.

BTW how did Lord Buckethead do? I saw him shaking Borris' hand on one of the newscasts.

LOL Lord Buckethead split the vote with Count Binface in Borris' riding.
And they did better than all the independent Candidates?

UK Politics are entertaining. Plus that "Ouurduurr, OUUURRRRURRRRR" speaker is pretty awesome too.

The Main tream Bullshit medias are exclusively and solely composed of leftists and socialists who dispise anyone who is conservative. We have seen that with Trump.

Kinda cuts both ways. The media did a fair job of butchering Corbyn's reputation while turning a blind eye to Johnson's previous lies and gaffe.

Corbyn was and is well known antisemite and a far leftist dolt so he got what he deserved. And Boris Johnson is a much more intelligent than any leftist socialist dolt, that is an indisputable fact.
