m-m shoots 'intruder' who turned out to be her ******** surprising her from college

So this story is making the rounds. Basically a woman is at home in her bed at night and hears people downstairs. She's scared because she's not expecting anyone, so she goes for her ***. Someone charges into her bedroom and she shoots them once in the elbow. Turns out it was her ******** sneaking back home from college to surprise her.

I think US *** culture is insane, but even I feel the ****** was justified. She's at home alone, and 2 people enter her house unannounced and charge into her bedroom.
Yet I keep reading about people saying "she should have confirmed who she was shooting at" or "she should have called out to the intruder first".
DaFuq? When did it become necessary to give notice to intruders in your home? Or what kind of reaction time are they expecting when someone charges into your bedroom?

If this were under any other circumstances I'd blame the m-m, but this seems like a clear case of a brain-dead ******** and a poor m-m who inadvertently shot her.

Not joking but this happened on an episode of Columbo titled Lady in Waiting.
A rich woman lived with her ******* who was played by Oscar Goldman.
She locked him out of the house at night and set the alarm so when he came in through the back door she shot him and claimed it was an accident.

And who says she barged in? She came home.
The ****** was wrong for firing 5 shots at someone without even knowing who she was shooting at.
That is something you just don't do no matter what.

Off course she's to blame but something else is to blaem : the pro-*** propaganda, how they spread fear on people, making them fear that someone's gonna come to ****** or **** them, that it's only a matter of time before it happens and that buying a *** would save their life. The result is that, confronted to a situation in which there's even à 1% chance it's the case, americans immediately think it is, think that is the moment for which they bought that ***.
And sometimes it is. But most of the time it isn't and they end up in an hospital, waiting for the doctor to tell them wether their ***, their fried, they husband/wife is gonna survive or not.

I used to live next door to one of my best friends, we've known each other since we were ****. I got home from work one night and walked across the yard to see what he was doing. It was pitch black and couldn't see ****, I didn't think nothing of it till I got up next to the window and stopped dead in my tracks because I heard the sound of the hammer of a .357 magnum being cocked. I said, "Dude, don't fucking shoot me!" If I hadn't said anything I would probably be dead as fried chicken. Had no idea he was ****** with the window open. I know he wasn't even kidding when he said he almost shot me. I don't poke around in the dark anymore.

Wow. I don't have ****, but I can't imagine the pain this woman will feel til the day she dies because of this. Really sad outcome.

IMO, this is a clear case of people who want to keep a firearm for home defense NEEDING firearms training before keeping the weapon in the home. One of the first things I learned when my *** took me out to hunt for the first time was you never fire at something until you know what it is you're shooting at. I've always been super picky about who I shot or hunted with. I've known people who would "brush hunt" (shooting at sounds in the brush) and I know a fellow who got shot by two of his friends because they thought he was a turkey in the brush. Luckily he survived, but that was the end of their friendship.

It was my (***************) uncle who taught me about home defense tactics. Same thing there: you don't shoot until you know for certain what it is that you're shooting at - and whether or not it poses a legitimate threat. If you're in a proper defensive position with cover, you can still take out the threat with only minimal danger to yourself. From reading the story link, it looks like the ******** did something stupid... and so did her ******.

"The ****** was startled by some noises she heard in the kitchen or hallway area. (so she had an opportunity to take cover and find a defensive position) She stated that the bedroom door opened where she was at, and she had a *** readily available and she fired a round at someone coming through the door." ("someone"? - so she was brush hunting and there was no armed threat even if had been a stranger).

Damn sad.

So I got 5 shots fired. I'm assuming with some sort of handgun.
I do not know how many times the ******** was shot. I assume at least once. It seems she was shot in the elbow area.

Ok. I gotta ask. How long did it take for the ****** to get the *** and shoot it from the moment she was startled? In the time that would have took it seems unlikely that she wouldnt have realized who it was.
Did she miss 4 out of 5 shots? Was the room dark even with an open door? I'm assuming it was completely dark otherwise she would have realized it was her ******** before she fetched a *** and fired 5 shots.

If this is real which I am beginning to doubt either way you dont shoot a *** at someone unless you know who you are shooting at. Period. End. Over.

You're right but isn't that quite depressng that US (lack of) *** legislation kinda forbids carefreeness ? That you need to be extra-cautious all the tie and that something (like a trick) that, in other western civilised countries, would make people say "You got be by surprise", in the US, can get you ****ed.
I think it's pretty sad...

I've read a few articles and they say different things.
At this point I don't care. All I have to say is you never shoot a weapon at a person until you are sure you know who it is.

I'm not sure. She does look pretty good for someone who just was shot and had surgery. Plus her entire arm wrapped up like an Egyptian Mummy with a thick layer of nice clean compression wrap doesn't seem realistic to me.
If she just had surgery for a gunshot to the elbow I would assume she had bone and/or tendon/ligament/muscle/nerve damage .
I can't see how there wouldn't be nerve damage in that area. Nerve damage which would require surgery. There are many nerves there which control your finger movements. A bullet would just annihilate them.

Showing off her injuries and X-rays, Jones says her right elbow was broken in three places by the shooting — which left her with eight screws and three plates in her arm following surgery.

Seems to me they wouldn't cover her arm up like that after such surgery. That would be unnecessary and a risk of infection plus inhibit the healing process.
The arm would have to be immobilized and wrapping her up like Ramesses II with compression wrap would not quite do the job. Plus she would be in excruciating pain after sustaining such an injury followed by the surgery she supposedly just had. But it does make for a nice photo op.
And at least she's not dressed in street clothes.
So yeah I'm calling probable fake news creating fake news again on this.
But I'm not sure.
