UK to BLOCK porn access

You were right, it won't be April 1st, maybe not even this year!

Apparently the BBFC didn't manage to get to the round table that was happening between all of the AV providers.... 300 meters from their office.

I'm seeing inside reports that it's probably not going into effect April 1st. The feelings it it will still happen in April (maybe) but not on the 1st exactly.

Maybe they should focus on Brexit and not worry about porn so much. Ya know... just a crazy thought.

I cannot believe the things going on in the UK, Theresa May just keeps putting up her proposition of a deal up for votes, but as the Speaker of the house there said, not more than two times the same bill, she now tries it with portions of it, and atm we are at four votes, all negative, but the damn parliament is also voting NO for every other proposition.

Now they are heading to having to take part in the upcoming EU elections - they aren't out - and probably May will have to face elections, and she will fall over this bs, like Cameron, her predecessor, also a conservative prime minister.

It is good that the rest of us in the EU are getting ready for the no deal Brexit, germany is building up its custom personell by 900 new workers. I don't know how the UK will manage thsi, going forward. But we'll see.

I guess we won't see this porn ban

Well, here's the thing. The law is already in place, parliament voted for it and then ****** on the regulating authority to the BBFC. So the age verification of 18+ media (I say this because porn is NOT the only thing that has to be age verified) doesn't have any effect from Brexit or vice versa. Personally, I think the cart was put before the ***** and the BBFC has absolutely no idea how they're going to actually carry this out. They have to make sure all of the verification services follow the law, i.e. it stays anonymous and no databases are created. And, they have to decide exactly the best way to verify. Mobile phone, credit card, card you have to buy at the grocery store, scanning an ID...

I'm sure there are quite a few privacy groups that are slowing down the process as well.

Now onto Article 17.....

So, a whole lot like Brexit. :D

I understand that they're separate issues and aren't interconnected. But both are good (or bad, depending on how you look at it) examples of governmental incompetence.

We've had a lot of "just vote for it and we'll figure out the details later" legislation in this country too. When they get into nanny state legislation, it tends to get even worse. Sorry that this particular foolishness is causing so may headaches for you folks at FreeOnes though.

Oh, I don't disagree at all. This is about as bad as ATVOD (the disaster before this new age ID law to regulate porn in the UK) except the BBFC doesn't have the vendetta against porn itself quite like the guy that ran ATVOD. Although, if parents would step up and actually, you know, parent little Susan and Johnny we wouldn't be getting these idiotic laws either.

I'd gander to say that this law is just about as stupid as FOSTA/SESTA in the USA.

But hey! Jesus, morality, for the ********, blah blah blah.

I'll get off my soapbox and actually work before going on my next vacation. ;-)

Hmmmm - maybe you should ask Robert Kraft?? ;-)

The new "date" is July 15.

Maybe I should start a date pool since I think the Brits national pass time is doing nothing but postponing stuff.

Well you just tell Miss, and Red, their old buddy EDB, has plenty of space for them. Not their clothes....closets are full, but the ladies are welcome.

This is still one of the most stupid fucking things I've seen for years.

Everyone here knows about VPN's, so we'll be using them to make the choices adults make. Whether it's to look at porn or not to look at porn.
It won't be too long before the poor wittle kiddies that are being protected are aware of VPN's if they aren't already and they'll bypass the block, and that will lead to VPN's being added to the list of blocked sites.

Again, this comes from the lazy arsed parents rabbiting the old line "My sons/********* know more about tech than I do", and not bothering their arses to ask the tech experts at the phone/computer shops to set up parental controls when they buy the insanely powerful tech for their 9 year old. It just really pisses me off that the lazy parents in this world are pandered to instead of being told to get off their arses and do some actual parenting.
Mediocre rant over for now.

I've heard mixed messages about VPNs to override the AV. The point of the law is to keep precious, fragile, little snowflakes that are being babysat by the internet from "stumbling upon" porn. It seems that if you're old enough to figure out a VPN then you're probably not going to be irreversibly harmed by internet smut.

But I agree, it's really a stupid ass law. I think the govt should just ***** parents to actually fucking parent their ****. Maybe even talk about sex.

Not good. Hopefully other countries won’t follow there example.

It's a stupid enough "protecting the young" law that someone will.

This reminds me when one day I logged on to my HBO GO and all of a sudden there was no adult content available. I e-mailed them and they told me that from now on there won’t be any adult content.

The irony is not lost here.
Not only are MindGeek behind the ageid system, they're also offering a free VPN (which will be loaded with ads) for people to bypass the UK porn block
