It's actually quite beautiful and, if you take proper supplies etc., can make for a very nice camping trip. Everyone should try camping in the desert at least once.

The last time I was in the desert was at night.
I stopped on the roadside to let my car cool down and took a walk into the dunes.
I lay down to rest a bit and heard rustling and clicking sounds in the sage brush.
Got my ass up and walked back to the car.
A few minutes later I felt something crawling up my pants leg and proceeded to nearly beat myself to death trying to vanquish whatever the hell it was...
