I had the privilege of driving Wilford Brimley around Las Vegas in 1996. I took him from the Horseshoe to Bally's. He insisted on sitting in the front seat of the limousine. I mentioned I had just seen "The Firm" on TNT, I think, and he said, "Damn, if it had been on network TV, I would've made more money." He was genuinely interested in hearing about my life and experiences and told me a few tall tales about old school Las Vegas.
I kind of don't want to include this part, but it happened and it left me with an impression and is pretty funny. We were on Las Vegas Blvd and Charleston, I think, and he turned to me and asked, "Where are the ladies, son?" Me being naive, I had no idea and I said, "Ladies?" "The whores, son. Where can we find some?" I didn't have any idea, but I said, " I imagine they'll be all over some of the hotel bars, sir. Honestly, I don't have any experience with that." I think I disappointed him a little.
But he was genuine, friendly and overall, one of my favorite people I drove when I worked for the Horseshoe all those years ago.
So long, Wilford Brimley. We hardly knew ye.
