Why the U.S. is not

headed towards socialism.

1. Recent election trends in fact show that the country is becomming more conservative.
2. Country music is making a resurgance. While I'm not a huge fan, Country music on the whole is patriotic and conservative.
3. American football is king. And one of the biggest problems we have every year in college football is that we don't decide the winner through a tournament. The U.S. loves a winner, and they only want one winner. Capitalism in a nutshell.
4. National health care- it's not even a topic on the mainstream radar, why because people aren't clammoring for it. Voters aren't basing their votes on it. Voters in this country care about one issue, money. They'll vote for whoever they think will get them more. Shallow yes, but once again, capitalism in a nutshell.
5 Gay rights, gay marriage- While I truly believe that gays should have equal protection and should have the right to marry and be recognized legally as such we've seen a rise in states banning gay marriage. Seems very dumb to me, but a conservative trend.
6. Cars- ever look around and see that high horsepower low mph cars are comming back, at American made versions. That's good for people like me who like to legally race, but also a sign that we're getting our testosterone back and moving towards conservatism.
7 George Bush got elected, twice. Yes he got elected the first time. I'm conservative and I don't like the guy. Yet our country elected him twice. That's conservative values. Kerry and Gore weren't really stellar competition, but still, George twice????
8 The U.S. loves a winner, and it loves to have winners and loosers. Although we forget the names of loosers in a heartbeat. Right or wrong it's how it is in this country.

I may not agree with every trend that I see, but I don't see a big shift in the culture. I do see that we have a liberal left that would love to make that change happen, just like we've always had, and just like we have a religious right that want to make us all christians. And how great is that we are allowed to have that.

For those of you that are bored by this, I apologize. For those that are offended by this, deal with it. It should not be offensive to state how you feel. And for those you who disagree, feel free to respond or not. If you agree with this, great(although on this board I doubt that there are many who feel the way I do, which is one of the reasons I like it so much).

I don't know why I felt the need to post this, but there it is.
