Why can't Americans be like this?

I have no idea. I highly doubt it even though he was being an idiot. Probably was a thrill for him though even though buses can be dangerous people.

In my neighborhood, there would be one fight over his shoes, another of his wallet, and another guy "taking advantage" of his prone position.
Its sad but in a lot of cases this is true.
Blimey! why did he jump the fence like that, this is why we have zebra crossing and pelican crossing. I bet he never do that again after that.

The guy to the immediate right of the victim just ignores him and crosses the street.
The two people further to the right by the bus stop do nothing but stand there with their thumbs up their asses.
The guy who almost jumps the fence right behind the victim just walks away pretending like he didn't see anything.

In my country (Netherlands) this would happen:
If the stupid guy was ethnic Dutch you would have seen the same as in this video.
If the stupid guy was muslim no one would care and he would most certainly die.
Next:
1: The bus driver would be sent to prison. There would be a parlementary inquiry about reckless driving busdrivers.
2: If the stupid guy would have been a muslim the bus driver would have got a few years extra sentence for being a racist. In that case the next step would be a parlementary inquiry about racist busdrivers.
3: In both cases there would be an inquiry about the technical state of the bus and a parlementary inquiry about negligence of bus companies.

I can't really see properly, but it looks like they're trying to move the guy. Now you can have all the compassion in the world, but that doesn't make up for the fact that if you're not a trained professional you do not move someone with a head injury (I'm assuming this probably is) unless it's absolutely necessary and you do it in a way that's going to cause the least amount of damage to the skull and spinal cord.
So whilst I agree with the overall concept of the thread, that it's good for people to help one another when hurt. You would hope if you were the one who was hurt that the people helping would know a little about what to do in that situation. I didn't know Americans wouldn't help someone in that situation? We've all heard the stories of people dying on the streets of New York and people just walking by (true or not). But I would think in a situation such as this there would obviously be people trying to help. And of course there will be others just like there is here who walk by trying not to get involved. My guess is that it is like that everywhere.

Frankly there are plenty of us in America that would help. There are always going to be people in all countries that would help, and people that would not help.
I don't think he's going to be doing a great deal of anything after that. Even if he survived, the broken bones will never be the same.
Not just Americans, most capitalist countries it's the same. The best way to get rich isn't to work hard, it's to injure yourself whilst being an idiot and then blame someone else for your stupidity.
