I think you are overstating it a bit, but I kind of know what you mean. Mid 80s brought video tape, cable TV and court cases which legalized porn. In the early to mid 90s the major men's mags were still softcore, video stores in every strip mall, and premium cable channels were looking for late night entertainment. So women with supermodel face & figures (Janine, Chasey Lain, Jenna, Taylor St. Claire, Tera Patrick) were attracted to the industry and +$100k income. From there it was an easy step into hardcore, and there was still a chance their parents wouldn't find out. Growth of the internet free porn sites and social media changed all that. Internet killed off video stores, and cut down the sale of magazines. The sex & nudity on HBO, Cinamax, etc is either high end Game of Thrones, Spartacus,etc or really low end made on the cheap with mostly porn stars.
It's now a lot harder for a young lady with super model looks to get into biz slowly, so we see fewer really hot pornstars.

Another factor is sheer volume. In the old days, there wasn't as many girls out there, and they didn't come and go as quickly. Now a days, it's so hard to just keep track of who is, or isn't retired yet, but in the old days, a girl stuck around for a while, and there wasn't as many, or as many choices for the medium in which you got to see them. You bought a porno mag, or rented a movie, and you feel in love. Today, everything moves faster, and in more forms. Now, you get so inundated with a rising stars content, by the time you get to see it all, she's moved on, and retired. Some girls stick around, but I have to believe the percentage of new, to veteran is pretty lopsided to the new girls.
Fair enough. For the most part I can go back to mid to late 90's to draw from but there's no way pornstars back then were a "thousand" times more attractive than the ones today.
One that comes immediately to mind is Eve Angel. She's from the 00s and still active today I think. I've never seen anyone in porn more drop dead gorgeous than her. That whole influx of central and eastern european women with the advent and expansion of internet porn has really raised the bar. I don't think porn stars have been any more beautiful than they are today.
