Why are porn dvds so expensive?

... i dont know, it just seems that they are to me, well maybe thats to do with being in Australia, though from what i have seen most are between $30 - $80, generally most being around the $40-$50 mark. A new release non porn movie will be $30, before long it will be down to $10-$20, so howcome it is porn dvds are generally alot more? (i'm not saying thats not always the case, im sure you can pick up cheap ones too)

I think a few reasons.

One is they don't tend to sell as many as "proper" films, so the extra cost is to cover lower sales.

Also, with it being porn, they reckon the "Perverts" who watch it are horny enough not to care too much about the extra cost and will pay what ever they wish to charge.

The internet certainly doesn't help physical DVD sales either.

Why are porn dvds so expensive?

Because people buy them at those prices indicating it is the equilibrium point of the supply and demand. :dunno:

I haven't been for a while, but they used to have porn movies at the flea market from the 70's and 80's on vhs for 99 cents.

I haven't bought an Adult DVD in years and whatever I had I pretty much gave away. Anything or everything I want is online and available for download.

By the same token, the markup on that stuff is outrageous. Why pay $30 bucks for something that will probably available for download on a movie site?

I still buy porn movies, usually a big order once or twice a year. Sales are frequent and usually bring them into the $10-$15 range or lower, no downloads for me.

I dont buy them that often but i always try and buy the cheapest ones available or I wait for the time when the website has a sale.

A short while ago I traded in my points for a porn DVD off of MyFreeOnes. When it arrives, I'm sure I'll be pleased. :)

As for prices.. yeah they're a bit high. I'm half tempted to get that Pirates BluRay just for shits and giggles. 1080p titty? The very thought is arousing.

I think the short answer is:

People are willing to pay that.

I'm guessing that if sales dropped off very sharply and stayed down, they'd start doing whatever they could to sell them.

They aren't mass produced on the scale of a major mainstream movie. Some movies sales only run in the thousands of units. Plus, having them shipped halfway across the planet might have something to do with it.

That's the way it is at porn shops. You should look at the freeones' store. They have lots of stuff, and it's generally much cheaper than at a porn shop (though sometimes it's still what I would consider expensive). I've ordered through them a couple times.

DVDs are expensive in Australia. Porn DVDs and regular DVDs only cost 15-25 dollars in the US.

I think he's talking about Australian dollars, maybe. If not you guys are getting ripped off, import them.

They do use dollars over there dont they????

Yes, but they call them "dollar-i-doos"... j/k apologies to my Aussie friends!

and apologies to everyone for the stupid joke...

The distributors have to have their big slice of your money.

This - in my opinion - is the closest to reality. No big box office draws, and no other streams of income. Most DVD's suck these days anyway. The last few I bought were total shyte. The "features" only have about 3-5 scenes, and the compilations will typically have one scene with the chick on the cover and 12 with hairy german sluts...

Have a look at my little site at *Edit*, you can buy films or choose the cheaper option of downloading them and even get previews of many of them.
