I never understood the attraction of this show among adults. Is it like R&M with meta humor, or subtle adult jokes, etc?
It was always a spiritual successor to ren and stimpy, IMO, minus the 90s edgelord over-the-top feel. Like shrek.
A contrived half story in bite sized episodes about rando crap for the Internet age and the autistic addiction to exact same nonsense - but in different situations.
It isn't even funny, it's just.. a story thats too lame to eat up a full hour. And even then, there's always a fast forward in the already short episodes. So gen z gets the rando stuff.
Millennials get the nostalgia trip - plus they now identify with squidward and sandy as the adults of the show onstead of the unerring wonderment of bob and patrick.
The appeal is basically internet culture - sarcasm, stupidity and memes.
At least that's my opinion. There is noh logical way to truly explain why - but your Facebook and Twitter feeds r all memes and sarcasm, which translates directly to a SpongeBob episode as a script. Without fail. So.. internet in a cartoon. Right?
