Whats the difference between a laptop and a notebook

I was wanting to get my ****** a laptop he is disabled and cant sit at a desktop computer for too long so.
i went to price some and they range from around 500 to a good 1,500 dollars but then i saw they have notebooks cheaper the cheapest i found was around 300 american dollars .

whats the difference between a notebook and a laptop can you help me out please thanks in advance
