I've always liked how it was pronounced - POW-luhs

Example: Field Marshal Paulus, Commander of the German 6th Army during the Battle of Stalingrad in WWII. His ****** were completely encircled by an entire Soviet army group after their counter offensive aptly named "Operation Uranus" (as in, we got your ass now).
