It danced slightly away.
Rock today is more like... hm.. rocking.
I guess the roll was rehearsed dancing to the music.
Nowadays you just listen to the music and move spontaneously to it as you like.
Just an idea.

(I should read something about Rock'n'Roll before posting this, and will now do it, but click now on submit as a first guess.)

btw, this rocks
and rolls! :yesyes:

It lost whatever testicles it had and resides on the radio. Also, what is your idea of "rock and roll"?

80's Cock Rock need not apply. It was never rock and roll.

Why, pray tell, does "80s cock rock" not qualify as Rock and roll? Please, do inform us all why guys with guitars and drums don't qualify because they had hairspray on, but mopey jackasses with flannel acting miserable in the 90s does count.

Chances are its just another word for 'rap' or 'hip-hap' or whatever it is (as you can tell, I don't give a toss about this gangster music).

Techno is now rap.
Pop is now rap.
Classical is now rap.
Reggae is now rap.
Rhythm and Blues (now known as R&B) is now rap.
etc. etc.

There are two types of Rock now ... "skillful" and "noisy". Rock N' Roll I guess died out in the 60's once The Beatles made headlines world wide ..

I don't really know, I wasn't around back then ... unfortunatly :(

Rock and Rock like all music evolved into something else.

Just about all music evolved out of Blues, especially all forms of pop and morden music.

Rock and Roll became Rock or Heavy Metal.
Hip Hop formed the basis for rap and a lot of modern dance music.
Electric became Techno.
Blues and Jazz was combined to become Rhythm and Blues (which is not RnB).
Soul became RnB the modern thing they think is Rhythm and Blues.
Disco became modern Pop.

hip hop also came out of soul and funk and disco.

it does seem like the only rock these days is college rock, which is either artsy stuff or else garage throwback.

Because Hair bands pandered to women solely for pussy and probably didn't give a rats ass about the music. To me, Rock and Roll was and is a movement. Let's look at Elvis, while today, his modest hip shaking is perfectly fine, back then it was foul and obscene. Hair metal is foul and obscene for a whole different list of reason, mostly for being a blemish on rock music in general. Apparently, hair metal is a bunch of sweaty dudes playing their shitty songs in a factory that only produces sparks with the women miles away from the band. TALK ABOUT TEETH. At least those mopey guys in flannel shirts produced some worth while bands, while hair metal just spawned pre-washed up rockstars (much like my roommate) that nobody gives a care about.

It also came out of Blues, Jazz, Rock and Roll, Classical, Country and Western, etc. As Hip Hop's form of music is sampling mixes from other music originally.

Yes I remember the seventies when it started.

Let me get this straight. Elvis' hip shaking -- lewd and sexually suggestive to women -- makes rock and roll a movement, but hair metal bands who also 'pandered to pussy' are not? Wake up and smell the testosterone, rock music has always been about guys putting themselves on a pedestal, being the cock of the walk, trying to get laid.

That makes perfect sense. It's crappy because... it's crappy. Nice argument, you should think about getting into music journalism. :)

Why exactly do you resent rock music appealing to women, anyway?

It's crappy because it's guitar driven pop veiled thinly as "metal" , and not even good pop. Simply my opinion.

Yes, mostly terrible bands.

I never said I resent rock music for appealing to women. I resent hair "metal" for being a god damned joke.

I don't see how you couldn't understand why myself or anyone else would think it's crappy. Also, great job on the "music journalism" rib! Being a music journalist would be a crappy gig, right? See, I'm also very good at putting words into other people's mouths, much like you did.
Elvis' hip shaking -- lewd and sexually suggestive to women...
It was "lewd and suggestive" to more than women in that day and age. Also, Elvis pushed the proverbial envelope by playing "black music", which was also uncommon in those days. I use Elvis as an example of a "rock and roll pioneer" because there's actually some merit to what he did for rock music, while hair metal bands of the 80's just gave us really trite garbage.

It died from rock´n´roll pneumonia and the boogie woogie flu.:dunno:

Btw,80s glamrock is better rock music than the sorry excuses that is active today.

Honestly, they're both on par. Fall Out Boy is todays Poison, Motley Cru, etc. Sure, Fall Out Boy is pretty terrible, but at least they're not gallivanting around pretending to be badasses, which makes it all the more embarrassing looking back on those 80's hair metal band. Honestly, I think my roommate fueled the fire even more so to my hatred of that era of music, so take that as you will.

But that being said, there's always hope for rock and roll.

If you want to listen to anything close to the older rock you have to listen to either bands like Avenged Sevenfold, The Human Abstract, Dragonforce, etc... Or you could listen to death metal and try to ignore the "singing". Most other "Rock" music these days consists of nothing more than power chords and girly singers.
