What are those sites that take over your tabs?

So if your viewing a TGP and open a link it will go to another TGP and in some cases the one that opens will hijack the other tabs, taking them to a different page and possibily opening others. They also seem to remove the history of your previous actions so you can just press the back button.

I've been wondering for a LOOOOONG time if there is a way to stop that from happening. It seems to be based on referrers so some kind of referrer killer?
