There are large swaths of the 80's that I don't remember either... but for a different reason than you.
But I'd love to be able to go back to the 80's. The 80's were the shit!!! :nanner: They made the 70's look like the 50's. Fuck yeah, drop my ass off on M Street in Georgetown and just drive away. So we have business ruling the world at the expense of everything else, we have the poor getting trampled into the dirt, we have (in Britain) a tory piece of shit in charge... Music reminiscent of the '80s seems to be appearing, '80s attitudes like:
"fuck the rest of you, I want everything, even if it's more than I need"
"Who cares about the future, lets just think of now"
"If it aint my problem then it aint my problem"
"Profit>Everything"
"Naked greed is good"
ETC seem rampant. The divide between rich and poor is expanding, the economy is collapsing...

I was born on 1980 and it seems the 80' are back.
My guess is that, with people wo were born during the 80' turning 30' they feel some kind of nostalgia towards their childhood and enjoy eveything that remind them of it.

IMO, the two best decades in recent history were the 60's and the 80's. The 60's had The Three M's: music, muscle cars and miniskirts. And people were beginning to break out of socially restrictive molds. Good and bad came from that. But at least young people began thinking for themselves (for a change) and not just doing what so many do now: follow a herd of lemmings and pretend that they're different just because their herd of lemmings is different. And yeah, even though the Go-Go 80's had "Greed Is Good" as a moniker, a LOT of people also found that you didn't have to be from a rich family or have to have country club connections in order to make it. And as late as the 80's, politicians of completely different stripes could find areas of agreement or compromise and still get things done when it got down to "crunch time" (like Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill) - unlike now. Plus, the 80's were the golden age of porn. The assembly line crap with blonde clones and bad bolt-ons, that we have today, hadn't started quite yet. Hot cars were even making a comeback by the late 80's. :nanner:
No decade has ever been all good or all bad. But some do stick out more than others, IMO. And after two generic, mostly shit decades, seems like we ought to be due for a good one soon. :dunno:
