On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month the guns of WWI fell silent for the first time in 4 long years in Europe. It now encompases veterans and active military today than its orginal concept, at least here in America. So how will you be celebrating Veterans Day.

./Old Glory will be flying bright first thing on this Veterans Day, before the morning coffee and before the pesky animals are fed. :D
Veterans Day is a day to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
Veterans Day has a most interesting history, a history that we should all be better in touch with.

Thank You for your service to this United States of America, Jason. :hatsoff:

I'll make sure my flag is flying unencumbered.

I'll go to work, where no one seems to care that anyone served in the military.

I'll think about my own eight years of Vietnam-era/cold war service in the USAF.

I'll watch the Veteran's Day parade outside my office building.

I'll say a silent tribute to those who gave their time to serve for our freedom. :hatsoff:

at the 11th hour My Nation will stop as one and a minute of Silence will be observed to remember our Fallen.

We will also spare a thought for our troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and those on peace keeping missions in East Timor and the Solomon Islands.

Today at 4pm I will be leaving 2 beers opened and 2 cigars lit in rememberance of my two friends that gave all they had to the United States in Iraq.

Thinking of my both grandfathers who fought nazis during WWII and one of my cousins friend who was in his 2nd tod in Iraq.
We can only remember and thank the vets.

Great story I am sorry to hear they did not make it home alive.

This might sound lame but I think Zac Brown Band says it best:

"I thank god for my life
And for the stars and stripes
May freedom forever fly, let it ring
Salute the ones who died
And the ones that give their lives, so we don't have to sacrifice
All the things we love"

God bless all our servicemen and women. Thank you for protecting our freedom!

I will remember all those who have and still are serving this great nation.
Thanks To All of you.

The Great War was an enormous shock to the nation (and of course to all the other ones involved) because it left no families untouched. There is a handful of villages called "Thankful Villages" from which no men were killed , out of tens of thousands of villages it's believed that 41 were untouched. And that's killed, three times as many were injured.

In case our American friends are wondering about the emphasis on this War rather than more recent ones it's because earlier this year we lost the last three survivors ; fittingly one Naval , one from the Army and one from the Air Force. It also explains the date and many other factors regarding what we call Remembrance Day.

My dad served during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He wasn't the exemplary father, but he has my respect.

Beers were cracked, cigars were lit and tears were shed.

Then it was of to the VFW, home now and REALLY missing my buddies.

Farewell my brothers, till we meet again on the Fiddler's Green.

Halfway down the trail to Hell,
In a shady meadow green
Are the Souls of all dead troopers camped,
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddlers' Green.

Marching past, straight through to Hell
The Infantry are seen.
Accompanied by the Engineers,
Artillery and Marines,
For none but the shades of Cavalrymen
Dismount at Fiddlers' Green.

Though some go curving down the trail
To seek a warmer scene.
No trooper ever gets to Hell
Ere he's emptied his canteen.
And so rides back to drink again
With friends at Fiddlers' Green.

And so when man and horse go down
Beneath a saber keen,
Or in a roaring charge of fierce melee
You stop a bullet clean,
And the hostiles come to get your scalp,
Just empty your canteen,
And put your pistol to your head
And go to Fiddlers' Green.

3d ACR Scouts out. If you ain't cav...... you aint SHIT!
