UFC 104 Robbery

UFC 104 took place tonight. In the main event Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida defended his 205 lb title against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Machida came into the fight having never lost a round in the UFC.

The fight went a full 5 rounds and Shogun was clearly winning the majority of the exchanges. He bloodied Machidas face and battered his legs so severely with leg kicks that Machida could barely walk by the end of the fight. Machida landed no significant shots other than a few knees to the body. Yet somehow, the judges gave the fight to Machida in a 48-47 unanimous decision.

When the decision was announced the entire Staples center booed loudly. Even Machida, looking like a beaten man, seemed suprised he got the decision. Clearly Rua was robbed.

I had favored Machida going into this fight, and I too thought he lost without a doubt. Lyoto was robbed of a clean and clear victory, and he was the more aggressive fighter throughout the fight. I would love to see a rematch very soon.

Rua should have won. He probably would have won if his corner wasn't telling him he was winning with 2 rounds left. Rua stopped pushing the action and was trying to coast to victory for the final 2 rounds.

If you're going to beat the champ, beat the champ. Don't let it fall into the judges hands.

No question Rua won the fight but when fighting a champ, you can't leave it up to the judges. Neither guy pushed the fight enough and neither guy showed 100%. Rua was the first to take rounds from Machida and connect that consistantly but the problem is, both guys weren't used to eachother's style and Rua was more concerned with surviving and Lyoto was completely caught off guard. Bitter sweet considering Lyoto is my favorite BUT we'll get a better fight in the rematch.

didnt see it, but as soon as the fight was over, espn had a link saying "Rua seizes title"

wouldn't work, then after a while it finally disappeared and the new headline stating Machida won was up.

sounds like Rua was clearly robbed. I don't get it. are these judges blind?! this kinda shit happens WAY TOO OFTEN!

I keep hearing this argument about "beating the champ". If winning on points isn't enough to win the title then why even keep score? If you have to KO or submit a guy to take his belt then why not just make the rules say that every fight that doesn't end by stoppage is a draw?

That shit is stupid. Shogun was clearly more aggressive, landed more significant strikes, and had Machida hurt and in trouble on multiple occassions. Never did I feel like Shogun was in deep water during the fight.

I don't know if there is any other association that does this or not,but I would like to either see it where there aren't a set amount of rounds.Fights will go as long as they have to(Fight Club rule #7).

The other option is that there are no rounds. You fight until you drop.those would be hard though, and fights probably wouldn't last that long,so I would actually prefer the first option.

Machida just got the title and clearly the judges felt a more defining win was enough to have the belt change hands. Again, we get a rematch so who cares.
