I keep seeing people putting tomato ketchup in the fridge, and for the life of me, I can't imagine why. I don't want cold sauce on my sausage and chips.
The main ingredients (after tomato) being natural preservatives vinegar, sugar and salt, why keep it cold?

Are you a fridge and a cupboard person?

Any favourite in brand - Heinz for me.

I keep it in the pantry until it's opened. Once I use it for the first time, I put it in the fridge. It really doesn't make any sense when you think about it. The ketchup bottle is left on the table at restaurants. I guess I put it there because my parents did the same when I was younger.

As for brands, I buy Red Gold which is made right here in Indiana. I refuse to buy Heinz because of a certain whore associated with the brand...

I keep it in the cupboard but apparently after opening you're supposed to put it in the fridge and use within a certain number of weeks. I've never done that and it hasn't killed me yet.

There's not really a great choice here. You can go for own brand stuff, or branston, but Heinz is the best. In South Africa, the top brand was All Gold, which is also very good.

The Fiery Hot Heinz Tomato Ketchup is best but only Morrisons sell it for some reason

Cupboard.

Putting something that cold on hot food doesn't sound too appealing to me.

As for brands: I don't like Heinz. it's not tangy enough for my tastes. I can't actually remember the brand name of the one I like, it may actually be a supermarket 'own brand' but getting up to check is out of the question - just not Heinz that's all you need to know.

Ketchup/catsup is used up rather quickly in restaurants. It has no time to "go bad" which, I suppose, is what we think happens to non-refrigerated, open ketchup.

I'm no fan of John Kerry, but I love Pittsburgh and have a 40 oz bottle of Heinz in the fridge. It's been there for a good while now. I can't remember the last time I used it.

I checked the back of my bottle before I posted and it doesn't say anything about refrigerate after opening. Yet just about everyone I know puts it there anyway.

In the fridge.

And I do like Heinz Ketchup, but I rather enjoy a variety of spica sauces, garlic, curry, an asian hot spica chicken etc

You, sir, are far less lazy than I am. It's funny, the weird little rituals and customs people share and never question. Mine's in the fridge and will remain there and, if anybody ever asks why, I will crush them.

I do tend to add a good dash or six of Tabasco or a good chilli sauce to the ketchup on my plate just to give it a bit of a boost.

We keep it stored on a shelf until it is opened and it goes into the refrigerator. A bottle of ketchup here lasts about 1-3 months, depending on the seasons, and it's never gone bad. We've had it longer than that sometimes too.

Mayonnaise is the one you don't want to leave out.

I put it in the fridge. Not sure why....and I always buy whatevers on sale. I'm not really a name brand fanatic for stuff like that.

Heinz.

In the fridge.

I like mine just a bit cooler than room temp. If I know I'm gonna use it, I'll take it out of the fridge and let it sit for a minute before using it.
