Tiger Stadium finally coming down ....

In the Spring of 1999, the last season the Premium Link Upgrade played in Premium Link Upgrade before moving to Comerica Park, the Detroit Free Press published an article about what the plans were for Tiger Stadium ...

Premium Link Upgrade

  • 3rd, 1st, and left field sides would have retail space on the street level, resident parking, and apartments.
  • Left field would have a pool, gym, running track, basketball courts, racquetball courts, and hockey rinks.
  • 8,000 seats would remain along with the playing field. Trees would be planted in the outfield.

Everything looked like it was going to be great, but in the past 9 years the way the City of Detroit has dealt with the stadium is just as bad as they have dealt with everything else .... poorly.

Last fall they removed what fixtures remained to be auctioned off to the public. At least those that were left that had not already been stolen.

Finally, a couple weeks ago demolition began. And the word came out that for the first time in 80 years you could actually see inside the stadium from the street. I had to see it for myself. My friend Kym tagged along as well ....

Premium Link Upgrade

There is one final push from a group called Premium Link Upgrade along with former Tiger radio announcer Premium Link Upgrade to keep the dugout-to-dugout portion of the stadium as a museum. They have until the 1st of August to raise $369,000. I don't have much hope for them.
