threads resetting as soon as i get on so it looks like nothing new on the board

as soon as i come to the forum it seems to mark everything as read so when i click on new posts it says nothing new has been posted in the last 24 hours. it is annoying as i would prefer to click on the 'go to the first new post' button on the threads i follow

i am using up to date chrome on a windows 8 machine. whats the deal?
