2004 – Dimebag Darrell, guitarist for Pantera and Damageplan is shot and killed at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio by paranoid schizophrenic Nathan Gale.

Really, a sad sad day.

What a bitter couple of days. The day that will forever live in infamy, followed by the day that one of the greatest artistic minds was slain. How sad.

I was upstairs in my room when I heard. Just like when Elvis died, I remember it like it was yesterday.

What sucked about the whole thing was that, at that time, he seemed to be getting it together - I mean, really getting the whole life thing in juggling his stardom and family life. His Wild Weekend party days were over, his Beatle days were long over, and he seemed to be finding quite a bit of peace in himself. And say what you want of Yoko (The Beatles were going to break up with or without her), she was a very calming influence on his life, only to have it end so suddenly on an act of total stupidity and greed.

It was all the work of J.D. Salinger.

John Lennon's final words to the security guard: "I've been shot."

I really don't get why somebody who bragged about his illegal drug use is mourned. It's not just you - it's a lot of people who listen to that type of music apparently.

You're right....you don't get it. Now please stay out of the thread unless you have something positive to add.

And for that he deserved to die? I'm trying to figure out what you're implying. So he used drugs...many musicians do. I don't see why that's a red flag. It's a personal issue, and he never claimed to be a role model.

Wow. more than three decades. We're all getting old.

I think Stan makes a mighty good point - he was seriously getting his shit together. He really could have been such a positive role model. However, the world was robbed of that opportunity.
