A trolley is hurtling down a track towards five people. You are on a bridge under which it will pass, and you can stop it by dropping a heavy weight in front of it. As it happens, there is a very fat man next to you - your only way to stop the trolley is to push him over the bridge and onto the track, killing him to save five. Should you proceed? (by J.J. Thomson)

No you should never kill someone even if it was to save five other people.

But if I knew it would stop the trolley, I would jump in front of the trolley myself!

No. Because I couldn't lift him. :D

Seriously though, even if I could I still wouldn't.

Why couldn't you just shout at the people and warn them of the coming danger?

Truthfully wouldn't push the fat guy and wouldn't jump myself.Fat guy might be able to grab ya and take you with him lol.Remember no good deed goes unpunished!

I would be too busy guarding my ass to do anything at all. Because if there's a trolley in the vicinity, I'm probably in San Francisco.

Seriously though, I wouldn't drop the fat man, because you don't know what's going to happen to the riders of the trolley when it hits the fat man and stops. They could be killed or injured by the jarring impact.

I'd whip out my mobile, take a video clip and get it onto youtube as soon as possible.

Maybe the fatman could be persuaded to sacrifice himself...
or get a kick in the bollocks?

I would use The Utilitarian Principle of the greatest good for the greatest number. The only thing that would give me pause is the fact that it would be a huge bloody mess of fat tissue splattered all over the place. Watch what can happen with splattered fat in the The Infamous Exploding Whale
